Hi Guys,I recently ported my Reliance Postpaid account to Idea Karnataka postpaid. Since I use an Android phone, I decided to add the Rs 98 for 2GB GPRS pack to my account. Now the IDEA's idiotic accounting process is like this: They charge your Data at 5ps/10KB & give you your 98 2GB pack discount at the end of the month when the bill is generated. So, assume you have a postpaid credit limit of Rs 1000 & you have activated your Rs 98 Data pack. Now, they'll charge you for 5ps/10KB. So, after you have downloaded about 200MB, you have exhausted your Credit Limit & they stop all Outgoing calls & GPRS! So, even if you have paid for Rs 98 for 2GB data, you can use only 200MB of it in a month! But at the time of bill generation, your account will only be charged Rs 98 as your discount kicks in. So, if you want to use the 2 GB you have paid for it, then your credit limit needs to be Min Rs 10,000!!I had a rude awakening about this today. My port was completed 3 days ago & my credit limit at Idea was Rs 1000. I downloaded 200MB today & to my horror my outgoing calls have been barred since morning. Either I have to live with outgoing calls barred till the bill is generated or ask them to increase the credit limit to Rs 10,000 to use full 2G!

Hi Guys,

This is not the case with just Idea, it happens to all other networks too. The same happened to me with my Vodafone number, I had to do some followups with Vodafone customer care and my credit limit was increased from Rs.1000/- to Rs.7000/-. The best way to use such GPRS packs is to stick to Prepaid, no such issues on it.

Idea is pathetic in case of GPRS. If you acitvate a day pack here in Tamil Nadu. They will take 24 hours to activate it!!

May be they have a poorly configured database in their backend

That's simply hilarious!! Do you people have to pay Rs.902/- for that odd 200Mb after bill generation or they give you back the excess amount after applying the discount?By the way, is there a major difference in speed for Idea Rs.98/- 2-Gb pack? I just activated the 3 day GPRS pack for Rs.16/-[300 Mb] & I am posting this with that, and I see not much difference between this & Airtel/BSNL GPRS.

Now this is just pathetic. I got an sms yesterday saying that the revised charges for Data are Rs.98 for 1GB & Rs.149 for 2 GB!I m seriously thinking of another jump, if other providers are giving better packs.

heh. airtel vodafone already have switched to something similar i think.also. you would find it pretty hard to consume 1GB in a month.

On 2nd thoughts, u cud be right as well. Coz the major app installation has been done, which wont be doing much in the coming months. I wud mostly depend on the thread "Recommended Google Android Apps" for some interesting apps. I m too lazy to search on the market.

ahem. app installations do not consume much data. using your mobile for email chat social networking downloading etc does.

I m still not using FB much.....Yeah Tapatalk is still pretty much used, and emails to some extent. But Apps.....i have downloaded quite a few of them. And i have uploaded quite a few pics yesterday thru my phone. Everything in all has taken the remaining balance to 1420 odd MB......

check uninor gprs signal. It is good if not as good as aitel /voda.Rs 90-6Gb/30 days ; Rs 48/3 Gb-30 days. But if you are using a single android phone for your permanent voice sim + data - not a good idea as Uninor voice reception is somewhat not too good outside metro and basements etc.If you are willing to keep your voice sim in a budget phone with 3 day battery and use android more for internet ,then you can experiment. That's what I do .:cool_2:I never make a single call with my Nexus-s (it may have any one of my 3G data or Gprs data sims at any given time) But my voice phone is budget micromax Q1 dual sim phone!!

go prepaid.... the best solution and cheaper and no bill tentions

Ah i m with prepaid already!@ ulysses...Thats where the catch lies for me! I basically changed my phone coz its primitive functions had gone dead or in coma. So i wud first have to repair it, and then see how it fares......but looks wise u cant even make out that its in that bad a state.PS: may be i m sounding Hindi film types "Achha bhala to tha.......fir kya ho gaya....." 😀
