Hey guys got a new motorola defy can any one help with activating 3g its mtnl mumbai card...also am in roam so do tell how to turn internet off. plz help will be thankful...

Goto Menu >> Settings >> Wireless and Network >> There you can turn mobile data on/off and switch between 2g and 3g.

i have kept network selection(3g/2g) on autoand where to turn on off data couldnt find it

Isn't there any column like Data enabled etc.? Also try switching from 2G/3G to 3G only if you want a 3G signal.or try this, press the power button for two seconds, do you get a popup with options turn off and switch data off?

is this setting correctname -MTNLapn-gprsppsmumproxy-172.16.39.10port-9401username-mtnlinternet still not workingpassword-mtnl123authentication-pap

weird. stock android does not have an auto option. and i do not think there is an option to disable edge. you need to use some third party utility which would create a fake APN and switch to it when you tell it to disable GPRS.

Ok..but first i need to get it working

No idea about settings, post about it in the MTNL section.

Install Juicedefender(free from the market) then. Goto homescreen and you can create a widget with which you can switch data on/off with a single click.

Both these options were there in stock Samsung ROM as well as Cyanogenmod so i presumed they would be there in Android by default.

Thanks for the app...and i think am in mtnl section only

is it prepaid or postpaid??

For Postpaid enter gprsmtnlmum
For Prepaid Enter gprsppsmum

otherwise contact the CC. (Not a mtnl user)

If youre on prepaid, delete any existing apns, except the mms one and create a new apn . Put the following data into it :-Name - mtnlApn - gprsppsmumEverything else should be left blank.

Did as u said still not working...its prpaid

Is it a new MTNL sim? If so you have to make one outgoing call from the home circle.Dont contact 1503 no use. call the exchange/Sanchar hut where you bought the sim and ask them the status of your sim-HsdPA enabled? But even if 3 G not working if APN is right, atleast GPRS should work.also check whether any minimum balance must be there in main a/c.check your data pack staus .*444# like that if you have subscribed to one.

well its extremely simple in defy....
just go to mobile network...
the place where you have to add APN... will be blank... so click the extreme left bottom button with four squares and add APN.
For Postpaid enter gprsmtnlmum
For Prepaid Enter gprsppsmum

and name as MTNL (or whatever you wish).
then click the back button to save it...
it should work.... if it does not ,, just restart it.

in CM7.1 and MIUI these settings are preinstalled in the ROMS.
