having another identity proof is never a bad idea. 🙂 a lot of people move around so driving license usually has an outdated address. mine actually has an address where i never really lived.

Hehe, i wud suggest all of u to change ur Private Banker then! 😀 Not in that department, not even related to that kind of department, but still promoting it! 😀

I agree with Sushubh in this point. Having another ID Proof is always good. Thats the reason I applied for my UIDAI Card too.

But RBI is making passbook compulsory now. This is wt the 1st post say 😀 😛

i am actually pretty close to switching back to ICICI full time.

i have had issues with them. but that was mostly because of shortage of branches so all of them were jampacked during the day time.

they have now opened several new branches so it has now become easier to get work done (when you have to go to the bank).

the only problem with them has been that they do not trust me enough to issue me a good credit card.

i took a standard chartered credit card. the experience was so good that i ended up opening an savings account with them. and then shit happened. 😀

i would continue to avoid aadhar card for as long as i could.

i did the same with voter id card.

Mascot....

I hope & pray u get ur passport quickly now! 😀

And if that becomes compulsory, it wud be a headache, if the account holders have to keep it updated. We just have 2 branches in Mumbai - 1 at Khar & 1 in Fort......instead of making "PassBOOKS" compulsory, why not make quarterly statements compulsory? That too wud act as a proof, and u wont be required to keep updating it.

Aadhar guys came to my office, I had to take form from them, filled it and brought next day. In morning went to submit, they issued me a token number and expected time. Then post lunch I submitted the form , they scanned my hands and eye . Thats It.

And exactly after 3 months gt my Aadhar card. I thought I won't be getting my Aadhar Card in so comfort 😀

:iconrofl: I have to again correct that word .

Thats really cool!! Ur employer must have paid quite few Peti's or may be Khoka's for that......So that they dont have to face a situation where their employees take the excuse of the Adhaar card for not coming to office or coming late to office! 😀

what kind of professionalism they offer, i can understand very well by this thread.
"hesistation in giving passbook" basic need of an account holder.
what else anyone can expect ?

well ultimately its a subjective preference both types of bank can provide certain services not available with the other..from my own experience and i have/had accounts in UCO, SBI, HSBC, Standard Chartered..i feel that certain (not all) Pvt banks are better at customer service than most public sector banks..I have been in HSBC Noida and Barakhamba Rd (C.P.) branch and i have seen bank staff yelling at people just like they do in Govt. banks..

public/govt banks can be really good if u can pull a few strings..or u have people to go to the bank for u..i got my online account working and activated the same day on which the actual a/c was created in SBI..was really impressed..

Std Chartered allowed me to change my postal address just by updating it thru the online account (via OTP verification)..they sent me a new pin just by sending them a request thru the online account...i am sure SBI would never allow that and require visits to the branch with address proof's and applications and forms and what not. But then as mentioned by the admin, Std chart doesnt allow me access to statements more than 3 months old whereas SBI allows me to access 3 yr old statements !!

so essentially boils down to your own preference..choose what u reckon is best for u.

Advantage of private banks: you can actually have an account without ever visiting the branch.None of the govt. banks allow that to happen

that was something i liked about them when i was in early 20s. now i am past that stage. private banks hate you when you visit their branches 😀 i have had very good experience dealing with BOB. they do not have a local branch in my area or i would have switched to them. options i have? icici hdfc andhra sbi and more i guess...all of these have branches in my sector! holy freaking f.

Having dealt with ICICI and SBI (and being in early 20's), I have to say ICICI is worth the extra Rs 50/year I pay to them

oh i wont touch SBI. babus there act like they are freaking ministers. BOB has been very nice. i have a ppf account with them.

I think if a bank is good enuf, u need not have its branch in ur area. That is, if u r opting for a private bank, u shud expect this level of professionalism from them. And i seriously dont know which banks do offer this. Coz prior to my current account, i had a "Minor" account in SBBJ which is a few metres away from my place.

I use my SBI passbook as a verification tool.I don't know what else I can do with this bank.

But one thing i had experienced is that those people who are habitual to Electronic Banking becomes blank in manual banks like SBI. And those persons (like my father) who is expert with passbook, Voucher form, cheques, and other 100 forms of bank become totally blank when it comes to withdraw amount from ATM.

Recently when i was at my home in Diwali holidays, Dad gave me a transfer slip and a cash voucher slip. This for for transferring amount from one SBI to another SBI. And when I went to bank i was totally bank where to give . I just hate this " Ekal Khidki " (would be " Single Window ") . Thanks God he had told me the name of officer with whom i had to take sign and then submitted it to that Ekal Khidki which was told by friend .

Even that Babu which signed the Voucher form warned me use cheque next time for amount transfer.
