First of all I am not even remotely related to electronics/ computers, so kindly be patient.
I am using 590 NU for the last month or so and have not been able to configure my Modem to reboot automatically before 8 in the morning.

I have a UTStarcom UT-300R2U modem with me, which was configured by the MTNL people and installed by them as well. I have connected it using the Ethernet port.
The problems faced by me are:
1. I am not able to make it autoreboot using the method described by nocaps (telnet client and task scheduler). It stops at the login step only.[I followed all the steps and copied the script from cyberwiz’ post for UT300R2U.] It says waiting for login but it fails.
2. I am not able to switch to the Bridge mode (cyberwiz method).
When I log into the modem configuration site, The message reads “The device "T-KD318-***" is an ADSL Router ideal for home networking and small business networking. The setup wizard will guide you to configure the device to connect to your ADSL connection.” From what I see in the manual it should have UT300R2U instead of what is mentioned in bold letters. Am I right?

Secondly, Cyberwiz’s post mentions that I should have options for DHCP under LAN, however there are no such options, DHCP is a separate tab on the left hand side. Because of this I am not able to use any method for automatic reboot.

I know I would have made some silly errors, but I need help. I hope cyberwiz and nocaps will help. I am attaching screenshot for explanation.

Seems like you've been provided with a UTStar cross-flashed with a different firmware (KASDA Digi. Tech. - another chinese make). Coz of that some of the settings and options mentioned in the guide will be under different tabs/categories in your case. Also the script won't work coz it has been optimized for a different firmware.

The easiest way would be to re-flash the modem with the orig. firmware (download it from here and look for an option to upgrade the firmware....should be under tools) although one can't be sure if doing so won't screw it up completely or whether this one will accept the orig. firmware. So do this only if ur in an adventurous mood. 😛

The other alternative is that u look around, familiarise urself with this firmware and try to set-up ur modem in bridge mode (the required settings should all be there even in this firmware, just maybe under diff tabs) and use a task scheduler to automate the rebooting process.

Thanks a lot for the reply. However as I told you, I am not an expert in these things and thinking of tweaking and then screwing it all up and then running after MTNL Babus gives me jitters. Will see what I can do and let you know! One thing more there is no oprion of rebooting throught the site either.

post screenshots of ur wan tab with the drop down options and i will try and help u configure bridge mode

Thanks a lot Cyberwiz, for replying. will do that soon. I might switch over to unlimited plan so this thing will become a lot less important. which part of Delhi do you stay by the way?

i am abroad at the moment
