CAS to be made mandatory in 4 metros by 2012

cabinet just cleared the bill making it mandatory to implement CAS in all 4 metros(Mum,del,kol,chn)by april 2012....Rest of India to follow later in phased manner. Hope this will have some effect on the cable BB industry as well. :Boy Hi 5:
 
Great, they had to do this within 6-7 months after I took Airtel DTH.I didnt buy DTH for 4years just waiting for CAS and when they scrapped it last year I switched to airtel.And now this!

me too i just took airtel a few months back, my cable op was saying from a few months that they will soon offer 290 channels.
nothing but a pure BS.


I have seen & used CAS in else's house,in some parts of kolkata it is still mandatory.But i would say DTH experience is much better.their stb's dont even come close to dth ops stb.

Small companies may promise this that blah blah but at last economies of scale always win's.
 
CAS wasnt liked by most in Chennai when it happened... I am not sure about other metrosThe STB was like 4-5k & packages were ok-ish....... Cost went up for most.... A few were happy with local regional channels @ under 100...
 

Dont worry - It may not be that bad a thing.... Better off with local cable or DTH if you ask me...

I paid 1100 for Hathway STB but recently came to know that Hathway gave it at Rs 600 later.

dude at my place told me 1000rs for STB and installation :c and P.M 200rs
 
In Chennai , the launch price was 5k ... now with DTH .. Its mostly 500 I think.... Channel bouquets were such that buying 5-6 individual channels would match the price of a 20 channel bouquet.. Later they enforced Rs.5 per channel...
 
i was charged only for STB. Rental remained same to 280 as it was in cable.
