And when he was speaking the statement, all IIT alumni were clapping and cheering him. And if we observe this practically, he is absolutely correct. Though I myself had not cleared IIT, so won't be in a position to comment more abt them.
 

the question is, how do you change the test. there was some talk of using Std XII marks. that would be an absolute disaster. coaching centers will become even more prevalent and cutoffs would be ~99%. maybe some sort of aptitude test which tests analytical ability and logical reasoning. but then we have hundreds of CAT coaching centers too.
 
Yes, actually tutions are growing only bcoz of IIT and MBBS. If both these streams are banned, then Coaching classes will shut down and tutors will start begging on streets. And wts the new changes which Sibbal had introduced for IIT Entrance Exams.
 
2 methods, however none of them are implementable:
i) Entrance test should be on the basis of branch you are targeting .Example: Newtonian physics would be of use to Mechanical branches, while quantum physics to Chemical/Electronics branches .. etc.
ii) Abolish Reservations

Quota guys have got in w/o any exam(effectively), so they are dragging it down even more than those who learnt the stuff from coaching classes

Both can be solved by the use of a Branch specific aptitude based testing system with only merit based entry

Branch specific aptitude, instead of general aptitude (like GATE papers)
 
Branch specific? wouldn't it be too early to expect students to decide in school only what type of engineering they want to pursue? if i am not mistaken someone told me that in most US colleges if you do engg. you (and the college) decide only after an year what type of engineering to pursue. Maybe this will be good? give streams based only on the students capabilities and merit.reservations. well as long as Mayawati is alive that won't ever happen.

You decide at the time of "counselling" now. It would be just a few weeks earlier
Also, yes people should decide by the time they are in 11th what they want to do, instead of taking phy.ed. in 11th/12th and then struggling to cope up with basic C in college after taking CSE

Not too practical when the no. of seats
 
This is one of the biggest reasons why I will not be recruiting at IITs. I've seen similar things several years ago with MCSEs/MS MVPs/etc even in my own country - they memorize the answers and that's about where the knowledge ends, but ask the candidate to set up an Active Directory server in a real environment and he'll spend more time on Bing (previously Google, Yahoo, Altavista...) or MS Technet than actually configuring the thing.
 
You'll prob. face the same problem in the majority of the engg. colleges here atleast
 
The controversy in 3Idiots was not created by him. They copied the entire story and went on to say 'who is Chetan Bhagat'. How imaginative.
