Yeah tht will not have a global presence like the US GPS .. It will be limited to 2000KM around India .. We need to launch many more satellites to have a global system like US GPS ..But IRNSS will be good enough for regional dominance ..

My point is, use GPS, but if GPS is found to be faulty.. then fall back to traditional thing.Whats the point of having GPS only missiles?You fire a missile and MIDWAY you realize that GPS is faulty, then what??? Whole missile wud be waste. Instead if traditional system is still there, atleast it will have some chance of hitting a target.

@amish.. I understand wht u r trying to say .. But you r missing the point .. Not all weapons rely on GPS .. Like I said Prithvi, Agni etc r not dependent on GPS.. They can work with and without tht ..Weapons launched from aircraft r mostly laser guided and don't need GPSBut a smart weapon like Brahmos need GPS .. They r made for specific purpose .. Tht is fast and precision strikes .. The risk always remains .. But tht is a very small risk .. and we can't stop developing smart weapons just cos it depends on GPS ..The better thing would be to make our own GPS and make it fault free ..

By the time we develop GPS... some other country might just have developed way to BURN a GPS satellite far far away using some LASER type rays.I think china is already in to that!

But tht doesn't mean countries should stop developing missiles now ..If someone can shoot down the gps satellite then so can we ..Can't stop making a weapon thinking abt a certain thing which can happen in future ..If it is going to affect our weapons.. then it is going to affect smart weapons of other countries too ..

I am not saying we shud stop making weapons. I am saying that external dependency shud go!I trust Russia but I wud never put a BLIND FAITH on them.

If India China goes to war then China will nuke us first at its will.

US ABM system(Aeigis) or any other system in the world is actually insufficient to be full-proof. Russia is building S500, India is building its Prithivi AAD/PAD system but all are in vain..
A simple technique of MiRV(multiple independently targetable reentry vehicle) i.e. more than one warhead on a single missile is enough to diffuse the system.

This was the reason why USSR-USA signed Anti-Ballistic missile treaty. Some russian missiles had approx 40 warheads on a single missile which made its defence a loosing and impossible battle. hence the two nations parted away and said no BMD system(sounds unusual isnt it). US has withdrawn frm it only now.
