Hi friends i am using the 600 combo plane (which offer 2mbps speed) from BSNL. from last night till now i am geting very bad internet speed. Can anybody explain this bad speed. I have never faced this kind of problem before and i am using this plane from nearly 2 years.

edit: For the first time i have spend 100% of my free 2.5 GB yesterday. Do this decrease in speed is due to the fact that i no longer have free usage left? The plane don't say it will restrict the bandwidth after complition of free usage though...........

If your plan is to charge you per MB over the 2.5GB limit, then... be prepared for a bill shock. Also, try a server other than Kathmandu - even I am not getting very good speeds to Kathmandu right now (I usually get about 10mbit/s, now I'm getting 2mbit/s). For you maybe Delhi.

well it charge after the free period 20 paisa per MB. So i am using internet in a very limited way right now. Which should keep the bill to a minimum. You said to change kathmandu server. How to do it please explain a bit. Speednet said it selected best server depending on ping. Also i am using nortondns for more protection. Looks like nortondns is a bit slow. But this problem is only surfacing from yesterday. Usually i get 1.7 to 1.85 MBps speed

Each one of the bright dots on speedtest.net is a different server. Rather than clicking "use recommended server", use the "zoom" function on the left-hand side of the map until you can see Delhi, then click on it. I'm relatively certain that the route to Delhi from Assam will be better than the route to Kathmandu, since, AFAIK, the route to Kathmandu will go through Delhi anyway.

Alternatively, try a not-very-busy server: Speedtest.net Mini Bandwidth Speed Test - this server is located in Gurgaon, or you can try Vodafone's Delhi server at Vodafone Group Speed Test

1. No speed won't be reduced even if you cross the usage limit.

2. DNS will not affect your download speed. But it can certainly have an effect on page loading time.

3. Since it happened only since last day, it could be an error at exchage. Hope you check with them. Also check with your friends in the same area. Most probably it will get rectified itself. You can also register a complaint here

4. Did you check torrents ? Do they give good speed ? Try a download from Microsoft and report your speed (no need to download the complete file, just observe for say 2 mins and stop the download).

Well speed back to normal from yesterday night. Might be some internal problem from bsnl or norton (since i am using norton dns). Thanks everyone for your valuable input.@ MeetdilipI get around 200 kbps download speed in torrent as well as other normal download. No difference.
