Nissan India will launch the Sunny petrol sedan on September 20th 2011. The Sunny will likely be priced in the Rs. 6 – 8 lakh range, which lies between the entry-level sedan, Toyota Etios (Rs. 5.54 – 6.97 lakh) and the premium sedan, Hyundai Verna (Rs. 6.99 – 9.64 lakh). The company has localized the Sunny petrol up to 90% reassuring that the pricing will be competitive.
As expected, the Nissan Sunny is powered by a 1.5 litre petrol motor that produces 98 bhp of maximum power and 134 Nm of maximum torque. The engine is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The ARAI-certified fuel economy of the Sunny is 16.95 kmpl.

Superb pricing by Nissan !

err Not launching a diesel model was a rookie mistake by Nissan... Car is ok but like its competitors Dzire & ethios it has plain styling & interiors... Hopefully Nissan will rectify this in the near future...

diesels perform well despite the low power rating. there are tons of other factors that matters.

Nissan does not state a specific time frame for the launch in the press release and says it will come “in the next few months.” Nissan also doesn’t mention a price band or number of variants. All variants will be manufactured at the Renault Nissan alliance plant in Oragadam, Chennai.Nissan Sunny is sold as Versa for US market and it is considered as the cheapest sedan in their market. Price starts from $12k, If Nissan price this well in India it will be a great hit

^^ Ya.. but woefully underpowered. 86 BHP , oh comeon ...........!

whoa..86 Bhp underpowered by Indian standards?? do you know that the Toyota altis diesel develops 88 BHP? and erstwhile skoda octavia diesel developed 90 Bhp..both bigger cars than sunny.

there is also something known as torque or rotational force..this engine develops 20 Kgm which is about 50% more power than comparable petrol engines.

other factors too involved viz power to weight ratio etc..definitely not underpowered going by Indian standards

Had the chance to drive a friends Nissan micra diesel which has the same engine albeit in a lower state of tune. Its brilliant, no turbo lag and drives like a petrol.

aree kaun bole hai sunny ka engine underpowered hai. abe s**le V12 ka ghoda laga le apni Maruti 800 mein. zooooooooooooooooooooom karti hui jayegi gali mein

In the era of >118 bhp in Petrol variants (City, fluidic Verna) and 85+ in the Petrol swift; I can by no stretch of imagination ; call the Sunny D a powerhouse.
That too when its own Petrol variant comes in at 99bhp!! ( and going by what reviews say, is a horrible car to drive in the city..)

Yes , its great they have launched a Diesel variant ; but its not the same VFM as its own petrol variant nor can it beat the other Diesels in that segment.

Heck, even the Fiat Linea MJD is 93+ !

anyways, its good to have one more choice for the buyer.
