alright edit 6 Tata Nanos

In the era of >118 bhp in Petrol variants (City, fluidic Verna) and 85+ in the Petrol swift; I can by no stretch of imagination ; call the Sunny D a powerhouse.

errm..please read carefully, i said sunny is not underpowered by indian diesel car standards.

[*]118 bhp is developed by the Honda City which is not a diesel and till recently more expensive and definitely a class higher than Sunny so no comparison.
[*]Petrol swift and dzire, in addition to the fact that they are petrol cars, have the same power as the sunny ie 85-86 bhp. Swift Desire diesel develops even less than the sunny i.e. only 75 bhp, so what is the argument?
[*]Verna 1.6 CRDI and fiat linea t-jet are probably the only exceptions, we all know that but even then the top model of nissan sunny diesel (definitely overpriced) only falls within the basic verna 1.6 category. Sunny diesel owners would more likely be competing with the 1.4 diesel verna that develops 90 bhp, only a paltry 4 bhp difference with sunny diesel. As for the Fiat linea T-jet, even basic model costs more than the sunny and not sure if anybody even buys that.

That too when its own Petrol variant comes in at 99bhp!! ( and going by what reviews say, is a horrible car to drive in the city..)

we are comparing diesel's here that fall in the same category. Maruti SX4 petrol develops 102 PS and its diesel version is 90 ps, so what is the argument?

Yes , its great they have launched a Diesel variant ; but its not the same VFM as its own petrol variant nor can it beat the other Diesels in that segment.

Your argument was limited to sunny being underpowered, and i have given lots of egs of other cars that have diesel engines in the same/higher class that have similar or slightly higher powered engines.

Heck, even the Fiat Linea MJD is 93+ !
heh. what difference is that 7 bhp going to make? we are not in a formula one here, for most practical purposes the power of the fiat linea and the sunny is the same.

You cannot jump across different engine types, variants, displacements, sizes and across different vehicle categories having different prices and make a generalised statement that a particular car is woefully underpowered. If i were to do that most Indian cars would fall short of cars being sold in europe/USA and would be grossly underpowered when compared to them.

This is not in support of sunny in any way, but saying that its underpowered would be a wrong statement when compared to similar cars in its class
