Hello!I'm in love with beauty Indian girl, which studies here at medical college. I love her very much, and would like to give her a gift, that reminds her her home. I've checked, and Tata Sky is recievable here. I'm having a business trip to India next week, and I would like to ask, if it possible for foreign citizen to buy Tata Sky package in India? I've checked their website and found nothing about that. Thanks in advance,Alex.

Not legally.

i do not think DTH purchases require document proof like mobile connections. but to buy/update packages, you would need to create an account with a local address. some people have indicated on this forum that they have managed to run local DTH services outside india (mostly around india... it is unlikely to work in USA for example coz it is on the other side of the planet). essentially, as long as you can get an account activated and renew packages (online or any other way)... you can get the hardware required easily. the hard part would be to get it to work outside india.

I'm in south caucassus area and Insat 4A is OK here with 1.6m primefocus dish. As I've read from the Tata Sky webpage, I can pre-pay yearly subscription fee at once. Maybe there are choices for single time payment for 2 or 3 years ?

still. you would probably have to get it installed at an indian address to get the connection activated. and then uninstall the hardware and take it with you. it would still be illegal. and well. i would have to remove this thread once you get all the details!

When in India try to get hold of pre activated STB from Tata Sky .. Although difficult to get but if u know some local connection in India who has tatasky installed, he can help u in obtaining STB ..Else as operamaniac said u have to get it installed somewhere on Indian address .. Once it is installed u can use it anywhere provided u get signals from INSAT 4A

So, you should get it installed to make it work?I mean, you can't just go to shop, buy receiver and card there, and do install by yourself?

as hitman said... STBs are not sold as activated. Tata Sky people come to your place and activate the connection based on the details you provide.

but you might be able to get an activated STB through an existing customer (not sure how).

----------

getting it activated and testing it out at a location is a safer option as you would know that the thing is working before you take it to your country!

the thing is. you might easily be able to bribe a shopkeeper to get the process done by paying a bit extra.

Interesting policy...When I was in Russia, I went to plain electronics store, where they sold TV, projector, etc. They also had satellite receivers and various packages. I bought a package (receiver+card), and salesgirl asked, whenever I'll activate the card by myself, or she can help with it, since some customers have trouble activating cards. I prefered her to do the job, so she hooked receiver to antenna, inserted the card, filled the registration form online and in 15 minutes I had working receiver and card, which I took with me, and no one ever asked any document. So, if Tata Sky is such problematic, what about other indian packages? they also require install by technicans?Regarding the "test & check", I'll be staying at hotel, so I don't think that hotel owner will allow me to install something in my room 🙂

All DTH operator in India have same ownership policy so you will face same issue of activating DTH due to address unavailable. And of course DTH requires signal from dish at roof, and no hotel will allow you test it 🙂(But beware!, handing TV connection to Indian girl as gift is dangerous idea, once she gets addicted to TV, she may forget you 😉 )

Tata Sky does not have license to broadcast them selves in US...so that it self is not legal to watch Indian channels there...smtime even while watching some Indian channels one gets those messages if ur getting this broadcast outside India plz report..this and that ( offc the person doing it will nt be reporting himself )... but better be careful as u may get fined 😀

Maybe he can get it installed on a car or something

I dont think RVs are very popular in India 😛

Privet... Adres v Indii nyeobhodimo budet podpisatsya na TataSky/Reliance/Airtel/итд, no, kak uzhe govorilos, eto ne sovsem zakonno. Hello... An address in India will be required to subscribe to TataSky/Reliance/Airtel/etc, but as it has been mentioned, it is not really legal. Russian operators usually broadcast in to neighbouring countries anyway, as they are all "ex-soviet" (CIS) states which is one reason you would not have as many problems buying a Russian service. Of course, I've also seen pirated movies broadcast on Georgian TV. Which country in South Caucasus are you from? Georgia? Armenia, Azerbaijan, Russia?
