I seriously dont understand why Tata Sky doesnt have PIP feature. While I understand the regular STBs wont be able to have such a feature, why cant it be done with the DVRs? All tata sky + STBs have two tuners (thats why you can watch a channel and still record another channel in the background, OR record two channels at the same time) so why cant they use the extra tuner (when its not recording anything) to show a small PIP window with other channels? My tv even has PIP option and I loved it before I discontinued the analog cable service and converted to Tata sky. I wish they'd update the software to support such feature in the future. Though you might need a new remote for the extra PIP buttons. Also missed this feature on airtel IPTV. That probably doesnt even need a costly STB with two tuners for such feature as the server can (technically) do it on its end and feed the new video with a full screen channel and another channel in the smaller PIP window to the STB. Anyways, I'm not dumb enough to even expect such a feature from airtel IPTV. The software in airtel IPTV is absolutely crap. They'd be better off devoting their resources to make it atleast somewhat usable for average consumer before adding such a feature. I loved my IPTV but couldnt stand the ridiculously slow and crappy interface anymore (not to mention, worse AV quality than DTH) and the FUP crap they pulled on everyone so got rid of it earlier this week. Only reliance iptv seems to be the one which will support true PIP feature (some DTH have it but they have 12 channel mosiac which is pretty much useless) but god knows when reliance IPTV will be here. We'll most probably get hayai before reliance manages to get its IPTV out of beta phase.

PIP is a beautiful feature and should be introduced by all DTH operators. We purchase high end TVs which has lots of features but STB attached to it doesnot support many of them. So ultimate experience of TV remains unexplored.

Most of the STB's being manufactured nowadays are not of the best quality. I have already had two TS HD+ boxes replaced because of some defects here and there. Do you think it is wise to add a feature like PIP in the current TS STB's , when they are not able to perform consistently with current feature on board ??

Same here. Plus that would be a software related update. I dont think there would be any more load on the processor than recording two shows simultaneously.

Ya, I think the current STBs are capable of having a PIP feature. The only loss will be that you wont be able to record anything while using the PIP function. Maybe they decided against it as it might confuse some not-so technically savvy consumers.

but most of the time we are not doing this, either ways TS+ already has a feature to warn user when he's recording 2 programs simultaneously and tries to change the channel - so this feature can be extended to PIP as well

PS: Not that i crave for this feature but never really got an opportunity to have used this in past though, so anything new is welcome 🙂

Right now, PIP should not be priority, more Movies and Sports Channels in HD please.

Those are two completely different and unrelated things. Not the same group of people working on them to need any prioritizing between these two.

Btw, this thread was just a rant. I dont expect them to add such a feature anytime soon. Just that I couldnt figure out why they didnt do something like this already.
