I'd suggest to go for SE (SonyEricsson) phones. They have excellent UI that attracts (and easy to use for) even someone aged 55+. As your budget is limited to 10K, I'd suggest to go for SE Zylo. It doesn't have touch screen/wifi and have low battery standby time. Actually, every other phone does have some negative points to talk about in 10K range. It costs 6.2k.If you are really looking for a (capacitive) touch screen phone, then I'd recommend SE txt pro. It costs around 7.4k. It has almost everything for an elderly person. Touch screen/wifi/slider qwerty keyboard, etc. Again battery standby time is the issue in this model too. 🙂 But for someone who doesn't make a lot of calls, the battery should come for a day, at least.Hope this helps.

Hmm 10K is a decent budget & I m sure u can find a lot of options for this budget... Unfortunately most of the better phones in this category are Android phone... Handling a Android phone can be a headache for a non tech Dad (I no from personal exp 🙂 )... But if he a little tech savvy(even a little bit) then the HTC wildfire would be a very good choice coz among Android phones it probably has the best UI... Its available for under 10K... Also look at the LG Optimus one as its also a very good phone... There are also a slew of china made Android phones for less than 7k(starting @5K) but would really not recommend them... In the Nokia options C3 with touch & type is a good phone... Also if you are not adverse to look into the second hand market you might be able to pick up a nice used iPhone 3G for lesst than 9K... BTW if you are not really in a hurry to buy the phone you might want to wait until oct... The new iPhones are gonna be announced & there is a lot of speculation that a Iphone 4s might be introduced in the 10-15K range(some are even speculating a sub 10K launch price but I think that might be a stretch) ... Even if the Iphone 4s is over ur budget you might be able to snatch up a new Iphone 4/3GS in clearance 🙂 ...

Both X3-02 and C3 use resistive touch technology which is more prone to errors than capacitive touch technology. I'd love to go for iPhone 4/3GS etc, it comes around 15K.

Have you had a look at the Dell xcd35 ?Retails at around 9k, check gsmarena for specs. Specs are way better than the optimus one and wildfire.I had one a while ago and it was pretty decent. I can vouch for the build quality; I have a habit of dropping phones, and the dell withstood all the abuse I meted out to it. A little underpowered at 600mhz, but given your requirements, I think this should do just fine.

u can try samsung wave 1 if its still in stock screen is pretty good on it ( might be discontinued to wave 2 ). Cell looks pretty nice also 😀

In Nokia

Try to find 5800 xpress music edition which is currently discontinued though but was pretty good phone and great for music too...

other mobiles currently with Nokia...that I have not used though..

A look alike of Nokia 5800 is 5235...check it out..

there is Nokia C5-03 touch screen one...

X2 keypad one a music player based.....
