BSNL DataOne, Home 500 C Plan
HI, Tried several times to Airtel Customer care, to know when they are planning to extend their BB service to Hebbal Kempapura(North Bangalore) area. Couldn't find a satisfying/realistic answer from anyone. Are these guys planning to put their copper cable to Hebbal Kempapura ? They have already put the connections to Sahakar Nagar(farther than Hebbal Kempapura, towards Northern part of Bangalore). But i am not able to find out why they are negligent or delaying to offer their service in this area.Does anybody have any idea about it ?S

Man just go in for a BSNL 256 K unlimited connection instead, why beg airtel? and since you don't have to pay (or very nominal) for installation etc. just go ahead and try it. my friend just applied for one and he is getting it with a wifi modem (at just 25 rupess extra than a normal modem), plus his phone rental is now waviered off. airtel anyways does not offer night double speeds on their 256 K unlimited connection here in bangalore, and nordoes it give you the promised speeds....so why even bother.i would like to know if airtel offers wifi modem?and does it come at any extra cost? also my ethernet cable's jack is loose and keeps coming out of the socket, can one ask for a replacement ....just for the cable? anybody? thanks.

Hi Gabruputt,
Thanks for the suggestion. Even i felt giving BSNL as the second option if i couldn't get Airtel. The only reason for me to go for Airtel is that it has a zero phone rental on its Rs 500/- Plan(Home Speed Plus, or something).
But BSNL has has zero phone rental schme only for Rs. 900/- (UL900) plan, which is more.
Please tell me more about the Wifi modem (Can we use it for otherthan BSNL connection ?) and zero phone rental scheme that your friend went for. Did he went for 900UL scheme ? Or is there any other scheme that offers zero phone rental from BSNL..
Please elaborate.
Thanks,
S

Yes, my friend opted for the rs.900 unlimited 256K plan. and now his BSNL phone rental is nil (which was rs.180 per month earlier) and he is automatically put on the one india plan but with no free calls. i suggest you go in for the 900 scheme since you don't have to bother about exceeding downloading limits. i think they have this free phone rental only on the 900 plan, but you could check with bsnl for more info. i agree with you that 900+100(modem rental)+ taxes is pricey for a crappy 256K connection but that is the best option available in india right now. I have friends who are on rs. 500 plans but they invariably end up paying more as the 1gb limit is not sufficent if you plan to download stuff.Srinivas, i didnt get your question "Please tell me more about the Wifi modem (Can we use it for other than BSNL connection ?)" i dont think they let you rent only the modem and not take their connection. i am 100% sure one can use the wifi modem (which will cost you rs.125 instead of rs. 100 for a normal modem) with a connection from another company(and you can surf the net on multiple computers with the same connection using the wifi modem)........ if that is what you mean?.......but i can let you know the exact make of the modem once my friend has received his.Or alternatively you can make an outright purchase of the wifi modem for 1800 and not pay for the monthly rental....which i don't suggest. Go to the bsnl broadband website it is all there.P.S. remeber with BSNL you will have to physically go and fill in the form and pay at their office...don't expect them to do stuff through phone calls.
