Today I purchased MTNL 3G Sim for my own use. Now I am in a dilemma. Though this is not much related to MTNL 3G, I am posting here because this one is most active section related to HSDPA.

So please suggest, should I purchase HSDPA USB stick or HSDPA mobile?

Advantages of USB stick are:
1) Plug and play
2) No charging
3) Cheaper compared to buying new mobile
4) You can change SIM card easily
5) Long life (hopefully)

Disadvantages of USB stick are:
1) Have to carry it separately
2) Needs a computer even if you just want to check email or chat
3) Cant make phone calls

Advantages of mobile:
1) Counters disadvantages of USB stick

Disadvantages of mobile:
1) Charging required, can be problem if battery is at low level.
2) Not so plug and play
3) Costly
4) Normal mobile life is 3-4 yrs (after which u normally have to purchase new one)

My choice is tending to the mobile phone because my existing mobile (Nokia N70) is already few years old.

If you think I should still use USB stick for some reason then please suggest.

About mobile I would like to know if there exists any GOOD BUT REASONABLY PRICED mobile which satisfies following conditions.

Criterias:
1) Dual GSM SIM (so that I can have both Vodafone + MTNL trump)
2) HSDPA 3mbps+
3) Shud be able to make/receive call on one card while GPRS/3G is working thru other card (i.e. without disconnecting internet connection)
4) Good battery life
5) Shud work without one or both SIM
6) Shud be able to switch off one or both SIM without removing it/them from mobile (dont want to fry my brain by having two SIMs radiating non-stop!)
7) Internet via USB shud be possible (because bluetooth drains battery)
8) USB charging (option to disable this preferred so that it does not drain laptop battery)
9) Internet via bluetooth. Helps in case u forget ur USB connector.
10) I should be able to install SSH client so I can access any PC anytime via mobile directly.

Additional but not compulsory requirement: (dont want these features if i can save good money)
1) Dual HSDPA support at same time? i.e. internet via both cards at same time? Like mobile uses vodafone internet and laptop uses MTNL one
2) Wifi technology
3) 2mp+ camera
4) front camera
5) touchscreen

In case you know something good, please let me know.

Thanks a lot in advance.

PS: I will keep updating this post just incase I remember something later on.

hmmm.....there is no mobile in current market which supports dual hspda support.....As far as single sim witn hsdpa is concerned......Nokia C7 is gud.....it supports data rates upto 10.2 mbps....wifi technology...and also a new technology called NFC (WHICH EVEN A NEWER iPhone DOESNT SUPPORT OR EVEN NOKIA N8 DOESNT HAVE).....FOR DATA USE I WUD SUGGEST U NOKIA C7 ONLY....ITS THE BEST ONE....As far as data card is concerned.....search ebay.in according to your needs and buy it online or from a dealer...suit yourself... 🙂

How much does Nokia C7 cost?

I dont want cost to go much higher than buying new mobile + usb stick. Max, 10k-12k

----------

Nokia C7 does not support Dual SIM... I thought it supports Dual SIM but internet(HSDPA) on only one SIM. If that was the case then I wud have chosen it.

But Dual SIM is my first criteria (not dual HSDPA)

you should go for mobile as it has many advantages than usb dongles.i use Nokia e52 as data modem for hours daily via bluetooth and it has massive advantage of portability.i get 450KB/sec. speeds on docomo sim.it has great battery life.i use another nokia 1100 for calling purposes only.and i prefer mobile instead of data modems. - - - gsmarena.com

if dual sim is your concern and not hsdpa.....why bother to give requirements about data card lol.....
Anyways im hereto help whatsoeva go through all Nokia's newly launched ranges of C2 SERIES...check nokia site...

@xaypatil...
Do you have a MTNL 3G sim....???

I want a mobile with Dual SIM with HSDPA...but Nokia C7 is single SIM with HSDPA. That is what I meant. I dont want to carry two mobiles, one for MTNL and other for Vodafone.

Many good replies already.Dude its completely dependent on your requirement. Please keep in mind the you can't use mobile and voice simultaneously. When your receive call, data transfer stop in mobile. If you have decided to go for mobile then blindly go for any mobile has Android OS2.2 or above. These OS has in build software to make your mobile wifi hotspot and you can connect multiple devises through wifi. Nokia is like ambasdor car...usually because of its brand people go for that. I am having LG optimus P500 mobile came with Android 2.2 Foryo that I recently upgraded to Android 2.3.3 gingerbread. I am using airtel sim in this have limited data activated as I use 3g in this not to connect laptops but for on the move mail checking and social network site etc. I have recently bought 3G stick from ebay Huawei E173 for Rs 1500 and inserted MTNL 3G sim and recharged wihh 4500 unlimited 6 month plan. I get 3.2mbps average speed in Delhi and used for my laptops and desktops. I also MTNL triband connection one mbps unlimited that I will soon surrender. Please note that if you are using VPIN etc for vitual office purpose like me then USB stick is not better option. Many times VPIN connection dos not work due to conflicting dial up. So plan accordingly. Also I feel that speed with USB stick is better than mobile and no fear of dropping connection if any phone call come...specially in any credit card or financial transactions.Whatever you choose, don't even think of Nokia. Now days hardware does not play role in mobile industry but this is software and here pathetic Nokia symbian lacks. Go for Android...once you start using you will though all other.

@rkumar
thats why i asked if mobile having 2 SIMs can be used for internet while there is voice call active on other SIM card.

abt internet disconnection when a call comes, u can always enable incoming call barring if u r going to use SIM only for internet.

Update:

There are some gigabyte mobiles on gsmarena.com which satisfy my criteria.

are they good?
available in india?
what abt service in india?

anyone has idea?

while buyong from GSMARENA...compare the price from every where...gsmarena is costly usually !!

No I am not buying online from anywhere.. i will buy from regular shop.gsmarena is only for searching and checking features!

abt internet disconnection when a call comes
there is no disconnection problem in UMTS mode of network.. data transfer continues while on a call... at least on my e52
