Who uses all these Chat apps???Means for using BBM, we should have all friends using BBM, same would be with Samsung chatON?

well in my circle whatsapp has gained popularity. in most companies bbm is pretty much the standard for communications. Apple fanboys would of course switch to imessage. google messed up the launch of huddle. it was a big opportunity for them. big mess. here are the reason...1. they already had disco app that was available in the US market. 2. huddle does not show if the other party is typing. 3. huddle does not support file sharing at the moment. 4. huddle is only available for Android and iOS. 5. huddle is promoted through google plus and not as a separate app. 6. you probably need to have a google plus account if you want to use it. the last point is very crucial. a lot of people are not getting a google plus account because of the privacy reasons associated with it. most other solutions do not require you to reveal your real name.

whatsapp rules for me also !
lets see who will actually buy after 1 year once trial expires !

----------

Nimbuzz is second option !

in one year group messaging market would be totally different. huddle would be on blackberry and probably other platforms. imessage would take over the iOS user base. blackberry might find itself in a mess. there are already rumors that blackberry is planning to launch BBM for other platforms. i have my doubts. it is one of the strongest addictions of blackberry users.

I read about BBM being available for other mobile platforms. It might be good then. But still we need some independent group chat app (may be like Skype, though Skype now belongs to MS) so it would be available for all OS.

there are tons of group messaging apps...

i have played around with some including kik. liveprofile is another one.

----------

skype has just acquired groupme which is another group messaging app.

i forgot to mention facebook messenger! it might become the next big player in this segment. considering it would also be multi-platform.

group messaging is different from instant messaging.

I'm already using ChatOn (😉), and what I don't like about it is that that we have to share our phone numbers to add buddies. Like PIN numbers on Blackberry devices, even ChatOn should have had some codes. But while registering, I received a code as an SMS. Hopefully they'll change some stuff in the final version.Apart from that, it's awesome. Smooth and fast, and has all the features one would need. Better than BBM imo.

A lot of people i know use whatsapp. So its convenient for me. Plus its multi platform. Supports iOS, Android, Symbian and BB.Maybe Samsung should've just started bundling whatsapp on all their phones. Its not like this is going to generate any revenues for them and unlike BB, people do not buy Samsung phones for their UI/services.

Are you beta testing it?? How did you get it??

samsung has already said that they would preload it on all their phones in the future. including feature phones, bada, android and i guess windows phone too. 😀

i get that but its scope would still be pretty limited. I mean personally, out of the 300 odd contacts on my phone, around 30-40 people use whatsapp. Out of those i don't think more than 4-5 have Samsung phones.

well look at the big picture. samsung is one of the largest android phone maker in the world. probably the largest.

and android is going to dominate the global market pretty soon. plus their bada and feature phones and WP7 devices.

they are the second largest mobile phone maker in the world after Nokia and they could soon become the largest.

that means a lot of people would have chaton preloaded on their devices.

huddle? none.
whatsapp? none.

they are aiming at Apple imessage with this platform. they are not even competing with whatsapp.

samsung has done good by promising that it would be offered on all platforms.

and... whatsapp is paid on some platforms.

and it would have a web based version! so people on PC can chat as well 😕

huddle does not have a web edition.

Didn't Nokia try something similar (Ovi Chat or some shit). And they were the largest phone manufacturer at that time.they are not going to lose anything with this. i just wished some manufacturers tie up and bundle cross platform compatible clients. make life easier for everyone.

ovi chat was probably a Nokia only app? and i dont think it comes preloaded with all nokia devices. 😕i don't think they have versions for android and iPhone? i thought it was more of an instant messaging app like meego or imo.im. never seen it in action.
