Hi, I have downloaded iso images of various Linux distros such as Ubuntu 11.04 (around 700 MB) and Fedora 15 (3.4 GB) recently. I have burned them to a CD and DVD respectively. As you are aware once an iso image is burned to a CD/DVD it extracts and new files and folders are created on the CD/DVD and thus the original iso image is no longer there. This is atleast what I understand. Once you have burned these iso images to CD/DVD, the CD/DVD in question becomes bootable and one can install the OS on it ie Ubuntu or Fedora. I have deleted both the iso images - Ubuntu and Fedora - once writing them to a CD and DVD respectively. Now I want to make copy of these Ubuntu CD and Fedora DVD, how do I do so? I have Nero 7 ultra edition on my Windows XP Home pc. Can anyone please guide me? Can I use the CD and DVD to make copies for my friend so he does not have to download these 2 iso images? Since Ubuntu is on a CD, can I transfer/copy its contents to a DVD and use this DVD to install Ubuntu using Nero 7? Please guide me as I am a bit confused here, thanks.

All you need to do in nero is select "copy entire cd" or "copy entire dvd". First nero will copy the contents and make a temp iso image on the hardrive and it will ask you to insert a blank dvd/cd. You just follow the instructions and you will get a copy of the cd or dvd.

Also if you need to make a iso of any bootable cd/dvd then get a software called poweriso. Load it up, insert the disc, Click on tools > make cd/dvd image file. Select the cd drive and choose iso option. Sit back and you will get a iso image of the cd/dvd. :biggrin (2):

PS: Why take trouble of making a cd. use a pendrive bro. First make a iso of the ubuntu cd as said above using poweriso. Then follow this .. http://www.pendrivelinux.com/universal-usb-installer-easy-as-1-2-3/

Dont u have a dvd player which works as CD/DVD both..... ?nd there shouldn't be any problem if you transfer CD contents to DVD and then install the OS ...

I have downloaded poweriso from here, PowerISO - Create, Edit, Extract, Mount, Compress, Encrypt, Split ISO file, ISO/BIN converter, Virtual Drive, DAA It is only 1.8 MB exe. It seems to be a limited edition to me. Will it really help me? Thanks

^ yeah it will do. Install it. Reboot the system when told.Open the poweriso. Insert the ubuntu cd in your DVD drive. Click on Tools > Make CD/DVD Rom image file. Select your dvd drive where you have the ubuntu cd inserted. Tick ISO as destination file. Give location to save. Hit ok.

dvd burning apps would have an option to mirror another dvd. use that option.

if you do not have any special software, you can use this one: CDBurnerXP: Features

on linux all u do isdd if=/dev/cdrom of=ubuntu.isoit will copy contents of CD and make ubuntu.iso
