Airtel Not Accepting 3G In Roaming

Recently My Friend Came From Gorakhpur,UP To My Home At Kolkata.The Problem Is He Activated Airtel 3G By Sending SMS "3G" to 121 And Also Had Recharged With Rs 9 /- 3G 10MB Pack, But He Isnt Getting Any 3G Tower.Here In Kolkata "Airtel 3G" Runs Using "VODAFONE IN" 3G Tower And Although 3G Is Activated In That Roaming UP Sim "Vodafone IN" 3G Tower Is Refusing It.On The Other Hand All Local Airtel Sim's Works Fine , On Activating 3G On Local Airtel Sim It Catches "VODAFONE IN" 3G Tower Instantly.Called 198 , 121 They Told They Cant Help As The Mobile Number Is Of UP , And Gave Me UP Customer Care Number.On Calling UP Customer Care They Told Me All Nonsense .. Told Me "Connect Net In GSM Mode , You Will Get 3G Speed" , After Arguing With Him Finally I Made Him To Take Complaint Regarding Dis ,But Still No Hope Already 1Day Passed And I Am Getting Pissed Off.BTW. I Tried Everything Like Manual Selection In UMTS Mode, Switching Of Mobile , Re-Inserting Sim , Inserting Sim To Another Mobile .. Same happened with me. I am having postpaid airtel connection in Mumbai on which I have activated 3G. Working fine in Mumbai but when I was in roaming in Gujarat, I was not getting 3G signals though 3G has been launched in Gujarat and working fine on local Gujarat no. I contacted customer care and they all give the same solution of changing network manually to Idea or Vodafone In but my sim refused to register on both. Again called customer care about the issue they logged a complaint about this. And today I got a call from customer care and they told me that 3G will work only in the same circle. During roaming 3G will not work. Is this the same with other 3G service providers also or this is with airtel only? I think I should switch to some other 3G operator.

Aha it looks like i am not the only one. Airtel is the biggest con arround.They say in Haryana we have launched 3G but as soon as i entered haryana there was no sign of 3G. Oh forget 3G i am not even getting edge just gprs.Now what do they expect me to do with gprs??

well, this all is happening because of operator "chalta hai" attitude. most operator want to cover PAN india operations and doesn't want to spend much on infra. companies like voda and airtel have come to level of implementing Huwaie network as it is economical. i wonder if you all know the fact that huwaie completely fails on principle of "LAST MILE CONECTIVITY". the chinkies dont understand the term at all. the customers who want quality and innovation are cornered in today's indian telecom industries. infact i wanted to go for good broadband services with minmum 10 mbps speed. iniquired alot but all in vein . near my house airtel does not have fibre connectivity or any tata or reliance as well. finally contacted BSNL, they gave their own level of service.
