The telecom regulator has issued notices to some leading operators for violating mobile number portability regulations by overcharging and preventing the customers from changing their service provider, the telecom ministry said on Wednesday.

The operators are Bharti Airtel, Idea Cellular, Loop, Reliance Communications and Vodafone.

"Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has initiated action by issuing show cause notices to service providers for violation of Mobile Number Portability (MNP) Regulations 2009 and the same will follow due process," said Milind Deora, Minister of State for Communications and IT, in a written reply to the Lok Sabha.

So, All leading Operators have been given showcause notice. That means no one is still completely ready to handle MNP. Its the fault of TRAI who gave green signal for MNP.And operators would be thinking that they all are defaulters, so nothing to worry about the notice.
 
TRAI had even issued some notice to Ten Cricket for showing excessive ads during Ind-SA series. Its just a Dog that barks, but never bites!
 
TRAI is to blame? Mobile operators delayed the process for years before it was finally implemented. TRAI did what the right thing was. mobile companies would never have done it properly by themselves. the same applies to DTH portability. should have arrived years ago. still not implemented. same applies to DND regulations. it is the mobile service providers who are causing the delays in proper implementation. TRAI is a recommendation body. they recommend policies. give plenty of time. the enforcement is not in their hands. mobile operators are big companies with deep pockets and connections. they do not give a shit for the regulations. they are to be blamed for the mess we have in our hands.
 
But if TRAI doesnt have enforcing authority, then i think it shud be given that authority. How much time does it take to make that sort of amendment?PS: Ignoring the "Will to do that" factor!
 
If operators are not ready, then whats the reason of green signalling half service. If we have waited long, we would have waited some more month.

If TRAI can impose penality, then why not strict with its action.

That means again corruption involved here.
 

ask the government why TRAI is not an enforcement body. it is just another example of government not want to have an autonomous body with real powers. they want everything under their own controls. trai has been one of the few bodies that actually tries to do good for the consumer.
 
C'mon, i didnt ask u "why"!! I know it does take the "Will to do". Thats what i clarified in the PS. Just as a casual comment (No rocket science involved) i said that it shud be given the enforcement powers!
 
Agreed Sushubh, but TRAI is again same like Delhi Police. They try to do good things, but Govt makes him behave like his puppet. And if noise is created , then this kind of showcause notice is issued by TRAI.May be Politicians would be using these kind of communications to recieve bribe from operators 😛Kapil Sibbal would have told Ambanis, Tatas and Birlas that whenever they recieve any showcause notice, then they had to submit XYZ amount of money in their foreign accounts. As Telephones are getting tapped, so may be this could be new kind of communication 😀
 
Its just a matter of time before blr_p responds to this "Strategy" of Sibbal!!
 
Actually guys, I am noticing that since last few days, people have lost interest in any other threads and only political arguements is going on. The thing is that, whatever is the hot topic, becomes the talk of the forum. Theres nothing as hot as Politics these days. A guy like me, who ran away even from the "P" in Politics, has got involved in it, due to the Dictatorship shown by Congress. I woke up from June 4.
