Animations - Yeah, I agree to an extent that, if you got bored/irritated of something like HTC Sense in a month, you would probably get irritated of this Grid thing in a week.

WTF its not just a skin... Cant u see they have a semi iCloud like service built into their phone & tab... This changes everything... Now I got to get me one of those grid type thingys 😛 ...PS Seems ironic that they are calling Android copycats when they just picked up quite a few things like icloud from Apple & some other features from webOS 😛 ...

Most of the official google apps use google.com api which would make it almost impossible for them to get to work on this thing as it has integrated with bing rather than google... BTW I still cant understand the logic of using bing vs google... What does bing brin to the table that isn't already been supplied by google...

Now, seriously -

"Is Android really popular?" Rathakrishnan asked. "I think Android [OS] is selling because it offers an alternative to Apple." - CEO of Fusion Garage

Sluggishness for one

UI looks good.

Touch-based consumer electronics devices such as tablets and Smart phones have changed the way we interact with our friends, family and the online world.

Fusion Garage designs and develops innovative touch-screen-based computing devices. Founded in 2008, the company developed the industry’s first Internet tablet in 2009. The category-creating tablet featured an operating system that booted directly into the browser in nine seconds and enabled users to enjoy almost instantaneous consumption of the Internet.

In 2011, Fusion Garage unveiled the groundbreaking Grid OS, Grid-10 tablet and Grid-4 smart phone. Fusion Garage’s Grid-10 brings a new level of innovation to the tablet market with features and functionality not found on any competitive model. The Grid-4 smart phone marks Fusion Garage’s expansion beyond tablets It can work in tandem with the Grid-10 tablet or as a standalone device

Fusion Garage is headquartered in Singapore and is privately funded. The company also has offices in India, China, London and the United States and has more than 100 employees.

Oh! They have office in India also.

well... they are using the android kernel. which means in the background it is still android.

the idea is simple. they created their own user interface but still gets the ability to run android apps.

the biggest problem with a brand new OS is to get apps on it.

android is being used by a variety of their party platforms. Baidu and Alibaba are launching their own mobile operating systems in China that are based on Android but feature a different user interface.

Baidu Yi mobile platform announced

gridos is similar to that.

blackberry playbook is a different os but they are going to offer a software based emulator to run android apps.

well these are generally more deeply integrated on the android kernel.

hard to explain as i am not an expert in this field myself.

just consider this... mac os x was sort of based on unix... so you still get a terminal and access to some unix commands on it. even the file system is similar to what you would find on a unix machine.

Mac OS X is based upon the Mach kernel. Certain parts from FreeBSD's and NetBSD's implementation of Unix were incorporated in NeXTSTEP, the core of Mac OS X. NeXTSTEP was the object-oriented operating system developed by Steve Jobs' company NeXT after he left Apple in 1985.
