Torrent speed is also down to 50-60kbps instead of the usual 195 kbps on utorrent (195 is the upper limit i set it to). Also speed fluctuates a lot.

Additionally there is a lot of packet loss to all servers and latency is a good 100-150ms higher than normal values :
There is a lot of jitter as well.
Code:
ping to google.co.in:Reply from 74.125.236.82: bytes=32 time=398ms TTL=50Reply from 74.125.236.82: bytes=32 time=399ms TTL=50Request timed out.Reply from 74.125.236.82: bytes=32 time=399ms TTL=50Reply from 74.125.236.82: bytes=32 time=400ms TTL=50Reply from 74.125.236.82: bytes=32 time=399ms TTL=50Reply from 74.125.236.82: bytes=32 time=400ms TTL=50Reply from 74.125.236.82: bytes=32 time=401ms TTL=50Reply from 74.125.236.82: bytes=32 time=400ms TTL=50Reply from 74.125.236.82: bytes=32 time=399ms TTL=50Reply from 74.125.236.82: bytes=32 time=400ms TTL=50Reply from 74.125.236.82: bytes=32 time=399ms TTL=50Request timed out.Request timed out.Reply from 74.125.236.82: bytes=32 time=399ms TTL=50Reply from 74.125.236.82: bytes=32 time=400ms TTL=50Reply from 74.125.236.82: bytes=32 time=401ms TTL=50Request timed out.Reply from 74.125.236.82: bytes=32 time=399ms TTL=50Reply from 74.125.236.82: bytes=32 time=400ms TTL=50Reply from 74.125.236.82: bytes=32 time=399ms TTL=50Reply from 74.125.236.82: bytes=32 time=399ms TTL=50Reply from 74.125.236.82: bytes=32 time=399ms TTL=50
(usually ping to google is 250-300ms max)

Youtube video and streaming music is not working well at all either.

If I call bsnl what do i tell them ? They just want to know if internet is on or off or gets disconnected - although neither happens the quality of the line is awful.

Help please.

Usual BSNL problem. Only solution is to get rid of it.

yeah but in kolkata isn't BSNL the best/only viable option ?

Reliance - not available in most areas (at least not in mine)
Airtel - higher latencies, similar packet loss, no unlimited plans/FUP.
Wireless providers - incredibly bad speeds, regular packet loss and more jitter

local cable internet - ? no clue about this really

But yeah I've been stuck with BSNL Home 500 for a number of years and I see nothing better to replace it. Newer plans are just awful.
I have a backup 4gb 1mpbs airtel connection but that's quite awful too.

I wish we had mtnl 🙁
