Dear membersCan someone help regarding the MTNL 3g data downloading problem. I have Nokia C6 mobile which i use as modem and MTNL 3G connection. When i connect the mobile to my laptop and connect to 3g network. the data downloading automatically starts without using any application e.g. internet explorer etc and the data available is automatically consumed. earlier windows updates were on by default so i turned off the automatic updated but the problem persists and i am not finding any solution to this problem.pls suggest something.thanks and regardsgaurav

What's your operating system?

This is the biggest issue of the people on a quota based internet plan. It's just a basic application, if you can afford 44 MB on a firewall then I would say you can try ZoneAlarm Free Firewall. It has plenty of other features as well but, it depends on your requirement and yeah, do check using the resource monitor what exactly is eating your bandwidth.

some data transfer will be always on when connected to net even on idle, svhost and some system process will always connect and it unwise to turn them off. download wireshark or tcp/ip view run them to find out if any tasks which are not from system using the net. p.s and plzz do not use zonal alarm it used to be a good firewall some 5 years back but now is one huge resource hog plus badly bugged for win 7 64 bits, the free version of outpost firewall is enuff for most users use that if you need a f/w.

dear allthanks for your response.i got the clue that it has somehing to do with the firewall. so i blocked all the incoming and outgoing applications through the windows firewall then only allowed internet connectivity and it worked. the data consumed through the net was only related to internet surfing and unnecessary data was not consumed.regardsgaurav
