Airtel 699 Plus Speeds

Almost same here. Thought not exactly double, the speed does go up at night.around 24kbps both D/L and U/L and its around 14 both ways during the day.Am not sure if it is supposed to be that way, for technically speaking 128kbps should equate to 16 KB/s, or so i thought. I was under the impression that Airtel was simply very good 😛

16 KBPS is the theoretical max for a 128 kbps. Whatever the speed, some bits have to be used for the transfer overhead. No ISP in the world can offer the theoretical max speed of any connxn. As for airtel ,I think they are doing a decent job. I often clock 14 - 15.4 KB/sec.

They definitely can offer 16KB/s for 128kbps.... all is takes is to upgrade the connection a little bit so as to compensate for the overhead. When I first signed up for Airtel 2 years ago, I used to get 30KB/s or even more on a 128kbps connection!

It's another matter that ISPs get away with not providing you the full speed in the name of overheads, and naming their plans "upto" such and such speed.

It's stinginess, not technological inability.

how the hell do u ppl get above 16kbpsme from mumbai n i get 13-14kbps d/l and 14-16kbps u/l throughout the day 🙁obvly my plan is Home699 with modem rent waived off

well, the thing is that getting those speeds is not a matter of choice but of luck. I got fantastic speeds when I started out probably because they were trying to build their reputation, and there probably weren't too many Airtel subscribers around this area. The latter has changed a lot, owing to the noregistration or installation fees that they have had in my area 2-3 times. So now I no longer get great speeds...My point was simply that if they want to give you 16KB/s on a 128kbps connection, there is nothing in technological terms stopping them. And they probably won't lose to much money over it, if at all... it's just stinginess, and a mentatlity of "you should onyl get what you paid for."
