they have lost this patent case several times already and they keep on appealing the decision. now that supreme court has ruled, i guess they have nowhere else to go. remains to be seen if they actually pay this much money or try to buy the company for less. 😀
From the article; "Though Microsoft complied with the court order by stopping selling versions of Word with the disputed technology from that date, it challenged the verdict in the US supreme court in August last year, arguing that the current system is disproportionately loaded in favor of patent holders."
Does this mean that they are now arguing against intellectual property rights which was hitherto their Holy Grail, and actually advocating the philosophy of Open Source? What a volte face, the #@$@ hypocrites!
