Hi,I have a broadband UL 900 PLUS connection. Though the doubts what I'm going to ask were discussed in the forum, I need a bit more detailed reply on all those matters.1. How can I call a telephone from my computer. What do I need to do so? Which services offer such facility? What will be the cost of these?2. How can I connect to more than one computer with a BB connection. What are the equipments needed? How to connect these? 3. What is the difference in connecting a modem through an USB port and LAN port? I had initially connected it through LAN, but now I am using it through USB cable. Is there any difference as far as speed is concerned, or in any other aspects in between the two connections? Which one do majority of you prefer?Hope I will get good responses for the queries from you experienced guys. Thanks in advance.Asha Menon

1 PC to phone calls : instant messengers (yahoo , skype etc ...) ;there are many services like Voipbuster , Vonage ... And GIZMO project , jajah , voipcheap , babble ... a special router & a phone adaptor may be required for some services . 2 one can connect more than one computer . BSNL doesnotsupport this for a home connection . 3 connection thru LAN is stable & better than the USB .

2:You need a router with multiple LAN ports. The modem and your router's WAN port will be connected with a network cable. Your home computers (LAN computer) can then be connected to the LAN ports in the router.Either you can buy a modem-router from BSNL which has multiple LAN ports built in, or you can buy the modem from BSNL that comes with the connected and buy a home router yourself. Or you can buy the modem-router yourself form a different company (D-Link?) which has multiple LAN ports. So, as you see, the key is to use multiple LAN ports. There are other sophisticated methods to do this, but the easiest is to have a router with multiple LAN ports.3:Using the USB cable needs USB drivers in your computer to talk to the modem. But the ethernet cable connection does not require any additional drivers. The communication is handled by the ethernet card in your computer and the ethernet connection in the modem. Using the ethernet cable method is the prefered method -- it is robust and eliminates the need for additional drivers thus reducing probability of problems.
