Hi! everyone i am a total newbie to bsnl broadband and please do help me out. I have taken plan500 which promises speed of 256kbps. But when i test the speed of my connection all of them rate it between 20kBps-30kBps. I guess it is too slow and the bsnl guys seem to be too dumb to sort it out. What can i do to get full bandwidth. Also whats the difference between kbps & kBps. what should i look out for? Please help!!!! Please help me clarify whether bsnl plan500 gives speeds of 256kilobytes/s or 256kilobits/s

kb = kilobitskB = kilobytes1byte= 8bitsnow.... (256 kilobits = 256/8 kilobytes = 32kilobytes) per secondso theoritically u sud be getting 32KBps .... but as its ADSL we loose 10-15%(due to overhead) .......so 28-30KBps sud be the speeds u must expect.

you should receive 25KB/SEC-28KB/SEC during day and burstable bandwith
between 28-32KB/SEC at night during less downtime.download speed gets divided by 8 so for 256kbps you should get 256/8=32KB/SEC but in reality you will get maximum 30KB/SEC during peak hours check your bandwith speed at www.speakeasy.net/speedtest if it reports 220-256kbps then your connection speed is ok but if it falls below 200kbps then report bsnl customer care to check your line.

Thanks!! I checked it out and it says down 434kbps and up 63kbps. But is bsnl plan500 giving 256kbps or 256kBps speed

^ BSNL is giving 256kbps (kilo bits per sec) This is a standard speed of a broadband connection .
