yeah. bring back the old days when it was just a game. not something of national interest. players were paid for playing games not for advertising. i mean winners of the cup today would get less than Rs. 15 crores in prize money. Dhoni charges more money for a single advertising campaign these days.

Just focussing on why now & why not before that India might win... (and not match fixing per se)The realistic chance that India had of winning was in 1996 & then in 2003 & 2007. 1992 Team was not that good & Sachin was like how Virat Kohli is now1996 The format was a knockout format & Sachin was doing well, but you cannot expect 1-man to win the cup like Tennis. SL choked the Indians in Semis1999 Team was ok, but not the best, also a couple of poor performances, we lost against Zim (in Sachin's absense) & played poorly against Aussies(better team)2003 Team was good, Sachin played well, and the only team we lost to was the Aussies(On their greatest run starting 1999-2009)2007 Team was good, but a collapse (we lost 6-7 wkts for some 10-20 runs against Ban, like we do even now occasionally) & then got beaten by SL - The format did not allow for a comeback2011 Team is good, We might still loose .....Bottom line we had 2-3 opportunities which we missed, just hoping that we use it this timeHence 2011 for me, is no extra super opportunity, we had chances in 1996, 2003 as well, it is just that we have not used them earlier & are hoping we will now.

one counter argument i got already... he would have bought the IPL for Mumbai Indians if he had the power to do so. now that is something i would accept as a solid reason against this rumor. 🙂

I also think Sachin may not retire .. he is not a person for records (his own words) , but 49 ODI centuries (if he hits one today , 48 if not & 99 International) ... would be a bit too close to give up a landmark, even the fans will cajole him to play the odd series for another 1-2 years... and he gets those landmarks .. even 100 ODI 50's is also not too far...

well he has to retire eventually. and if india wins today, it would be a good time for him to do so.

If he is not planning to play many ODIs though - then he might be better off retiring.

He has hardly played ODIs .. in the last 1 year.. so unless he plans to play for the landmarks, he should retire.. whether or India lifts the cup

he would probably want to save himself for test matches and of course IPL is always there. one days are not something that are on priority for a lot of players. test matches still have their charm and IPL brings in good money. 🙂

i don't think this is right time to retire .. he will definitely retire someday .. but will play year or 2 ...

I think landmarks are the only incentive left for Sachin to continue in ODIs.. Tests are a different ballgame altogether..

i hope murli is playing! he is as huge a star as sachin and this is his last world cup too!
