Umm.. i am not sure if u have written abt this 3G problem earlier and how u r trying.. but if u r trying with old Nokia models (or other models)... they all mention 3G but support speeds upto 384k only.

hmm interesting... My BSNL sim in my iPhone when used in Mumbai on MTNL network returns 1-1.5Mbps speed so I dont think the speed is capped to 384Kbps...

Agree with Amish.

Please try using your SIM in another 3.5G or HSPA+ supported handset. Alternatively if you have a handset which indeed supports higher speeds (peaking 3.6 Mbps or 7.2 Mbps) try a SIM card from any of these service providers: Airtel, Vodafone & Reliance (3G license winners of Mumbai Circle).

Hope this helps. All the best!

I am using iPhone 4 which is HSDPA 7.2 Mbps capable.

Hmm I read somewhere in the MTNL 3G section here that u have to get hsdpa activated from MTNL seperatly by paying either Rs50 or Rs500(not sure which is the correct amount)... Thank god I dont have to do this on BSNL

He said he is using an Iphone 4 which can reach 7.2Mbps max... I myself am currently an Iphone 4 right now in mumbai & getting 1.5Mbps on the MTNL network but using a BSNL sim

I put the same sim in HSDPA stick and speed still remains at 384 kbps. There is some configuration on MTNL's side which is capping speeds.

err as I have already mentioned u have to activate HSDPA on ur MTNL Sim which will require u to pay Rs50 or 500... There is a post about this somewhere in this section search for it...

hsdpa is activated in the usb data modems sims of mtnl by default

Even I'm fed of this 384kbps cap of MTNL on 3G. I had sent a message ACT HSDPA to 444 but nothing happened.

@rajadeep: On activation of HSDPA Rs.449 will be deducted from your balance & you will get 449MB with a validity of 1 month.
MTNL 3G Jadoo DataCard Booking

According to Mr. Gaikwad who works at BKC, ACT HSDPA message needs to be sent to 444 to enable HSDPA speeds. Activation charge is around Rs. 400. He suggested that we activate HSDPA and not 3G. I was angry and told him that I have already paid Rs. 300 a year ago to activate 3G and cannot pay activation charges every time just to upgrade speeds.Edit:Mr. Gaikwad is the man!!!HSDPA network is enabled on my phone now. Speeds easily reaching 2.5 mbps Now a happy Panda 😀

How much time did it take for you to get the confirmation message that HSDPA is activated on your phone now?

Vodafone, reliance & airtel are giving higher speeds without charging extra, why mtnl is caping 3G and asking users to pay more for higher speeds?

10p/10KB for vadafone1p.10KB for mtnl it does not mean that if you charge 1/10th price, you restrict the speeds also by 1/10?
