Hello, I am using Siticable and i have a old TV set Philips. The TV supports upto 100 channels. For some reason it only shows 16. I am able to see upto 100 channels. But after 16 - they are all grains. As i understand the TV is old and hence cant catch all the frequencies of other channels. The cable repair guy is saying it is not possible Is there any way i can get all the channels of cable. I dont have settop box or CAS. i am not planning to buy them. any other gadget i can use? My apologies for posting this question. Sorry, i could not find a relevant forum.Thank you.

The grainy channels are the result of signal loss in the cable that's coming to your home. I'm doubtful whether your TV is faulty. One of the main reasons of me switching to a DTH service was this issue. I too had this issue and the local cable guy used to bring some device to fine tune something. It used to work for some weeks, but after that the problem starts again.

The grainy channels are because the TV is not able to capture all the frequencies. When i say grainy. It means i dont see anything at all.Just like when you dont connect your cable at all. I am looking for a box which will give component video out from from cable TV. Something like a TV tuner card which gives VGA output. I need component output.I dont know if such a box exists. I dont want to buy a STB.

In that case I think the internal tuner of your TV has gone bad. Why don't you show the TV to a local TV repair guy...

BTW, was it the same since the beginning?

You may get an External TV Tuner Card and also get a VGA to RC converter like the below. You may have to connect the sound output to the TV input using a 3.5mm to RC cable.

I DO NOT suggest this option as this would get messy with bunch of wires running and also it is a costly affair.

get tv converterI forgot exact name, it will receive all channels

call a tv technician and ask him to replace you tuner with latest tuner which can recieve hyperband channels ...this wud be sumthing lyk replacin the "processor" of the tv...he will replace the buttons on the tv and give u a new remote...

there is many time problem with TV tuner and they are not able to catch the channel .. so that is why set top is best option .. am having the same from Hathway .. and it gives me better quality .. no need to replace tv if this solution works ...and even if you replace the TV .. u won't get good quality with the cable .. what we are getting from the STB ...
