Yes list was well presented when i saw it.Can you tell me one more thing? the wire that comes from dish to the house.. is it same as normal cable wire?i am asking because i have internal wiring... wire from my current cable operator comes from outside and goes to mains and is then attached to that internal cable wire.so if this wire is not the same then my internal wiring wont work and i will have to drill hole thru window or so and also get hanging wires in house.

I have used only 2 DTH services TS (at my home) , and airtel (at relative's place) and out of the two I preferred TS because of their UI.In TS channels are sorted very well compared to Airtel. And the big advantage is that TS has introduced some new sports plans, that have made sports channel much more affordable.

Yeah the wire is almost of the same size & a similar nature like that of cable - of the Standard Def connection.

And do consider this new insight provided by Rock.....when i did my research TS Standard Def too was costly. I have least idea of the current situation!!

TS is still costly.. 240Rs for supreme sports packAirtel costs 242Rs for economic sports packnot much difference but airtel is MP4.. can fit more channels in one transponder.Tata Sky have had both positive as well as negative reviews.airtel seems to have less negative reviews.if u see the picture in first post of this thread..1st year cost of TS wud cost me 3639Rs whereas Airtel with cashback will cost 3281Rs. so Tatasky is almost 350Rs costlier.both including STB cost and installation cost.

6 more questions about Airtel DVR

1) can i record a program in other channel when i am watching some other channel? i think that can be done in Tata Sky but on airtel website its not clear.

2) can current channel that i am watching be recorded as well when i am already recording some other channel at the same time? sometimes i might want to re-see whole episode.

3) can i record 2 channels at a time when i am NOT watching tv?

4) can i record ANY channel OR certain channels can not be recorded?

5) what is the latest model for airtel DVR... i do not want to end up with an OLD model.

6) is channel switching fast enough? i can wait for 1-2 seconds.. but 3 or more seconds wud make me impatient.

Sorry for the late reply.....u will know the reason in another thread!!

For all these questions, i will be able to answer in terms of "What should be there"......but ultimately, cant say whether it is there or not.......may be i can check up in about an hour or so & will add to this post.

1) can i record a program in other channel when i am watching some other channel? i think that can be done in Tata Sky but on airtel website its not clear.

It should be. Coz then whats the use of the recording feature? Half of its utility is lost......a person records a show coz he wants to see another 1 at THAT VERY MOMENT. Still, i havent used it - check out their thread or directly contact their CC. But 1 suggestion abt CC - do not jump to conclusions about quality of service by talking to 1 person only.......in every CC, u are bound to find 5 out of 10 who are ignorant.

2) can current channel that i am watching be recorded as well when i am already recording some other channel at the same time? sometimes i might want to re-see whole episode.

Again, other players support this.

3) can i record 2 channels at a time when i am NOT watching tv?

Of course......Ur STB doesnt know if the TV is on or off. It does its job - airing the content out & recording it if instructed.

4) can i record ANY channel OR certain channels can not be recorded?

I didnt get this question.....which is the type of channel u r talking about?? Of what i have heard, people even record stuff from "Active Channels", like in TS, people record Star Cricket HD & ESPN HD - atleast 1 of them is active channel.

5) what is the latest model for airtel DVR... i do not want to end up with an OLD model.

U can always check the Package box of that STB for manufacturing date. If u r not satisfied, u have the right to get it changed for the latest make - After all, the company wants to sell its product to u!!

6) is channel switching fast enough? i can wait for 1-2 seconds.. but 3 or more seconds wud make me impatient.

Videocon HD DVR takes about 2 seconds or so - thats all the info i have.......

1) You cannot record the active channels in Tata Sky - rest ALL channels can be recorded2) ESPN HD and Star Cricket HD - are not active channels - thats why you can record them.Overall - there are two cables coming from your dish to set top box - so at any given point you can do 2 things1) watch 1 show - record another2) switch off and record 2 shows parallely3) record 1 - record 2 - watch 1 of the recorded shows

ok thanks jymn and sood...@jymn - abt question no. 4 - what i mean is.. there may be some broadcasters who say "NO YOU CANT RECORD OUR PROGRAM.. u can see it when we broadcast but not later".i think i had read this somewhere...when TS DVR was launched.. that it was not recording certain channels because of copyright thing.. not sure though.

@sood.....

Bro, but they promote the HD Channel in that way only - Demand for Replays, etc on Star Cricket HD......i mean on 1 side they say that watch cricket in HD, and then they show that umpire asks a TS HD user to see replays from customised angles to give his decisions.
So, i thought that atleast Star Cricket HD or ESPN HD was "Active Service".

Do update on this, coz i am still under the impression that it is Active service.

amish

Dont have much idea on that......coz when i was "experimenting" with my DVR, it was showing me recording option on many channels - didnt see all, but i still saw the option on most of them.

Ok thanks all.I just booked Airtel DVR connection.... my first product with airtel brand name!Rs. 3590 + 4 months economy sports pack + 250Rs. credit to airtel DTH accountEco. sport pack costs 243Rs per month.. so indirectly i get 5 months free.Whereas current cable connection wud cost me 1750Rs for 5 months.(@350Rs/month)So overall DVR connection cost is abt 1900Rs. So hopefully its a good buy.Next I will try to get some refund from my cable operator by returning STB..hopefully might give 300-500Rs.

great!! And i think that is HD DVR, not just DVR......enjoy man!! U too are a part of the HD revolution now!!

Airtel doesnt have HD DVR, its only DVR with 576p res. And recently ASCII banned the Airtel's AD which was "Misleading" as AIRTEL mentioned the recorder as HD capable which is not the case.

No no .. its not HD.. it has HDMI port but its just 500p something not 1000p something.. whatever exact standard is.

Btw they said delivery wud be made in 48hrs! I asked to try by tomorrow as my cable connection wud end today.

Jignesh, thanks for clarifying my myth!! I was seriously wondering - how come they offer HD+DVR at 3500+, and cash back of 250 & 4 months subscription as well!!
