Hi all,I wanted to know if MTNL charges for uploading..the billing site always indicates the downloads being billed (uploads do not seem to be factored at all).Could anyone please confirm this??Many thanks!

The Ispz bill data transfer. Uploading is a part of data transfer. Be aware of the fact that they wont show uploading seperately but instead merge it with downloading. To be more precise of what ur data transfers are currently i suggest installing a broadband monitoring software.

Hi I am a newbie here. Can anyone please confirm this?I have never heard of anything like this before. So in a NU plan, i can upload to my heart s content during the day without worrying about the 1 GB limit?

Whenever u upload u download miniscule amounts of data, over an hour this can range from anything between 2.5-5 MB.so u cant upload 24X7 without worrying abt ur 1 GB limit

There is nothing to quote..wat do i quote? This is a universal phenomenon which i am telling over here, it has got nothing to do with charging policy of MTNL.Whichever the internet connection..whichever the ISP..when u upload u also download but only small amts of data..if ur ISP charges for downloads then this miniscule amt of download WILL COUNT IN YOUR DOWNLOAD LIMIT

hey buddy cyberwiz, u made a slight mistake in the calculation, even if we consider the lowest 2.5 MB per hr limit... 😉16 (hrs) * 2.5 (MB) * 30 (days) = 1200 MByou can very well exhaust ur 1 GB limit just by uploading stuff 😱but yeah, you can be pretty safe with just a cpl of hrs of uploads per day 😀 or now you can calculate that for yourself, isn't it??? 😉

What you are referring to is the ACKs sent by the other computer that tells your computer it to send some more. You upload, the other computer ACKnowledges it and says yeah i got it right, send some more or oppps i did not get it, pls retransmit. This all happens in the TCP Protocol.

I'm not sure how often this is but i would think if you uploaded 100MB say, the acks downloaded would probably be very small.

In fact i dont think they would be considered as data at all since they are like ping signals sent back.

If you ping a machine for 10 minutes have you uploaded any data ?

Thats exactly wat i said "so u cant upload 24X7 without worrying abt ur 1 GB limit"

16 (hrs) * 2.5 (MB) * 30 (days) = 1200 MB

I have experienced a steady 4-8 kbps download on TCP/UDP streaming/uploading etc and an hour of streaming/uploading translates to abt 100 MB Upload which in turn results in 2.5 to 3 MB/Hr downloaded data on a 256K connex.

I didnt mean to challenge anyones knowledge about the issue. All I meant was that there are ISPs including SIfy that consider data transfer as download+ Upload nad not only download.

Why r u cryin again and again!

And its proven and said again

"MTNL DON'T CHARGE FOR UPLOAD DATA USAGE"

Every member in this section recognize this however if you still doubt it then call 1504. Don't mess up here.

you knw..b4 the port binding thing.. mtnl wasnt counting the amount of data being downloaded while your only uploading... i used abc/azureus for this job... but it does.. and that sucks.. cause all the data that has been downloaded while uploading is counted 🙁 .... so you really cant upload a lot without worring too much abt your downloads now 🙁

Agreed you are a veteran here, that does not give you the right to trash other peoples' opinions and doubts. Didnt you have any doubts when you were new?
Try to be polite and reasonable. Its a good virtue.
