I live in delhi and probably going to get the connection in a day or two, i have a few questions. .1. Should i get a wifi or wired connection? what's better for high speeds and torrents?2. How's the mtnl service and maintenance?3. how much monthly charge i have to pay except for the plan charge? Thanks  any other suggestions are welcome

mtln is sad.....everything abt it is horrible..some cheap plans though...but i suggest don't take it...MTNL is ****ed up everywhere!....good luck 🙂

Let us focus on answering OP's question rather than passing unrelated comments.I don't believe it would matter much which one you choose. Your plan speed will be the limitation rather than the medium inside your house.I already have the wired connection but if I were to get a new connection today, I would go for the wireless. Connect my main desktop on a wired LAN and have the Wifi available for connection when needed to a laptop or even a Wifi enabled mobile. It only jacks up the entry cost by about 300 bucks and doesn't affect recurring cost so it is worth it.

i agree with Daddycool...lol....funny name...but yeah wireless is an additional feature....good if u r using laptop and wi-fi enabled phone.....or else wired connection is just perfect...wish even i had 1mbps speed 🙁....its over my budget...sad..lucky u'll.

oh and last question guys, does the connection gets disconnected after every 6 hours? if so, will it break my downloads from link-removed and link-removed?

i suggest u shud use torrents.....coz their download can't be matched and broken....and yes MTNL has some server goin offline issues (atleast here)...but i hope it'll be fine..good luck!

don't think twice.i don't understand why people crib about mtnl. there's no FUP, no hidden costs, you get what you pay for.and about the whole customer care thing - whenever my net goes down (which is rare, if it does, it happens like once in six months) i register the complaint on IVRS.within hours i begin getting calls on how is my net, what seems to be the problem etc. usually there's some hardware/server problem on their part (when they do the upgrades, i think) but whenever it's something wrong with my modem settings, some knowledgeable guy calls me and patiently tells me some new settings. if all else fails, they send along some engineer (happened once).the downtime issues are exaggerated. the customer service thing is exaggerated.i have two connections at home (one for phone+IPTV) and the other for wi-fi. i have one in my office, i use different plans, the usages are different but there are no issues.remember, it's mtnl that started the broadband revolution in india when everyone was doing 56k. unlike some corporate SOBs, they don't suck your blood. they reduce prices every six months (and others follow suit). don't think about it, go for mtnl.

Yep, I always get call back same day within hrs when I complain using IVR or now from last 2-3 times when I complain using their online form.Btw complaint was not because net was down but i complained something else which was triband related.

^ I completely agree. I cannot claim that MTNL is a great ISP but in the Indian context, I am convinced that they offer best VFM. Perhaps their CC are unable to talk in a artificial accent but they are as competent/incompetent as the others. Don't know about Airtel whose CC is supposed to be much better but my experience of their CC for mobile was nothing to write home about.I would also advise guys like akshay, when you write in a thread that MTNL (or any other provider) is all kinds of evil, you would do well to suggest what you recommend as the alternative.
