Ok, after a HUGE wait for airtel, something is finally brewing. Airtel has approached the building right next to mine for permission to setup their junction box. According to the details what my friend gave, their "junction box" is a room 10ft x 10ft x 11ft which they are going to build on their premises!! I saw the request first hand. They are going to pay them some rent. But thats besides the point. The some of members of that building are totally against it. One round of meetings have failed. The next is going to be very soon. Now guys please tell me, what in Gods name is Airtel doing? In this era of miniaturisation why are they setting up this huge box? I mean what exactly is going to be housed in there and why? I went to my other friend's apartment complex and those guys have occupied very little space. Only about 2-3 boxes running some equipment. Its as big as an average fridge.Someone please shed some light on this! I am very eager to get Airtel!! 🙁

That sounds more like they are setting up an exchange as opposed to a mere junction box. They will set up junction boxes after that will feed off this exchange. If you have ever been in one of these, they have racks of computers that act as switches for telephone and even bulkier batteries to act as backup. This means they intend to service your area and are scaling up to meet the demand.SO if they are successful at getting permission to install you can be certain of getting airtel 🙂What's curious is why there is any opposition to this in your building at all ?You need to understand the reasons for this. Are there other ppl on the take, trying to get rival companies to install instead for example. Who is/are the dominant ISPs in your area.

Its not in my building. Its the building just across mine. See the thing is that our area has a lot of old buildings ( approx 15-20 year old ) and they are only 4 storied. So people in their building are opposed as they dont want any "commercial" activity going on in the building's premises. Also, the suggested site for the "junction box" is very near to the building and hence people feel that their privacy will be compromised which is partially true.In our area, we have 7star, Reliance powersurfer and MTNL. I too was thinking that this is more of an exchange than a mere junction box. I wonder what kinda servers they have inside it 😛.

*sigh* Airtel is never coming to my place 🙁 The people in that building struck down the proposal. Boo hoo. Back to square one 🙁 All hopes crushed :'(
