I have a 999 Rs 1 mbps unlimited plan . These days I am getting very low speeds .

I used to get > 0.9 mbps downstream from this server .

I complained to MTNL but they said i was synced the right speeds , and my modem HG520 also shows 1152 / 509 as the speed

Any ideas ?

Post a speedtest to the delhi server and see...

This is from the Delhi server :

Its weird , downloading a file through a download manager i get full speed :

Downloading the same file through the browser (tried firefox , safari , chrome , opera) is very slow

Even on well seeded torrents i am getting 100 kBps +

Online streaming is painfully slow . Even slower than 256 kbps

I dont think its a malware problem since the same thing is happening in linux and on wifi . it took me 20+ minutes to download a 5 mb app from the appstore

These are my modem stats :

Tried switching modulation between ADSL2+ and G.DMT , changing DNS etc . nothing worked .

Your line stats appear to very good, maybe your problem is only a illusion of urself and not a problem in real sense.

Your line stats are really good... do you live near the exchange or what? i mean they are really good ... see i guess must be a internal mtnl problem... i suggest you stick with the same settings... but if you want you can try ADSL2+ modulation mode... thats what i use..

I suggest you use some kind of network monitor to display your speed during usage. Something is most likely choking your bandwidth and that something has greater priority than the browser but lower than the download manager.I would say download and install the latest version of Advanced System Care. It now includes a network monitor which is pretty decent and shows the bandwidth used by different applications in realtime.

I am pretty sure its a real problem , connections outside India are totally fcked up .

I live 250 mtrs from the exchange . Already tried all modulations . I guess ill write an email to these morons

try to use opendns
Tried that too . and mtnl's own dns also .

I am using a network monitor , that's where the screenshots are from . I dont think its an issue of priority because if a download a file which doesnt support multiple threads (say link-removed free) even from the download manager i get very low speeds (10-15kBps)

I hope its not linked to https://broadband.forum/bsnl-broadband/62499-inter-net-speed-very-slow/

That isn't the case... wait lemme see what i get to those servers.. 🙂 and post some results

okay @manu1991 https://www.speedtest.net

this is odd... see one problem with having speedtest's on intl servers is that with the hop... your bandwidth decreases... and specially dont post a speedtest.net result as many times their results are not accurate... (system is buggy / server is not upto the mark) hence i suggest speedtest on these links :

1. MTNL site : http://202.159.230.232:8888/speed/index.jsp
2. BSNL site : karnataka.bsnl.co.in/bandwidthmeter/initialmeter.php

and also technically you have no right to complain to them ... since till the ISP node you are getting quite good speed...
i am not taking sides... just stating the facts.. here but i suggest you seek some help from personnel high up in MTNL....

and lol if you live 250m away... just give a whacking to the broad(hah!)band GM

Sorry I missed those monitor screenshots. I am sure you are also aware that Speedtest results are also skewed by other downloads taking place at the same time. So all other net activity needs to be turned off during the test.Have you done the MTNL speed test suggested by auroraPWN?

Hm... contact your broadband GM man ... you are just 250m away from the exchange... seems like they have some bandwidth throttling issues

Could be an issue of cabling. I too had a problem a couple of months ago. The line stats were good but my speed was erratic. I called the lady in the server room (number given by CC) and she checked and told me the problem was in the line. She then gave me the contact of the person concerned and I followed up till they changed the cable and the problem was resolved. Now my speed is as per my plan.

Can anyone help me? I'm on Combo 999, 1Mbps plan.. I booked New MTNL landline + broadband on 4th October'2010. Landline was installed on 8th Oct & Broadband on 11th October. Ever since my broadband was installed my speed is 450-500kbps & not on 1Mbps as per my plan. The line rate for downstream is on 572kbps under modem status. I called 1504 numerous times .. Just i get is reference number but nothing has been done.. I emailed to A.M. (Nehru Place) on 18th Oct regarding this, still no avail.. CAN ANY1 TELL ME HOW TO GET 1Mbps INSTEAD ?P.S. I stay at Dayanand Colony(Lajpat Nagar-4).. NEHRU PLACE EXCHANGE

Three people came from MTNL today , they did a speedtest on the mtnl site and the speed shown was 160 kbps . They checked the sync speed and all and said it must be a backend problem . They said it should be resolved soon .
