Hi,

I have ordered for a BSNL Data one Broadband Connection Home UL 900 Plus. And the Modem I selected is Type IV I believe SMARTAX MT841 ADSL GATEWAY is the modem. I have a few questions.

1) Is it possible to configure this device thru telnet just like we do the router?

2) Is there any additional hardware i need to connect to the modem to use internet thru wireless on my laptop (Already having a wireless card).Because I don’t see any antenna on the device

3) Will i be able to restrict access thru MAC address registration?

4) Is it possible to apply ACL on this?

5) Will I be able to use router command on this device thru telnet (like sh ip,)

6) Is it possible to connect a Hub to the device and share the Internet connection?

Regards
Simon

Pls check the link below for documentation for MT841

http://www.huawei.com/products/terminal/doc/list.do?id=22

why do you need telnet to configure the device !

modem should also have a wireless card .

hub can be added to share the connection .
the speed is shared among all the connections .

Hi

Thanks for the quick reply.

I have got the documentaion already i just wanted to confirm wether thats the model (MT841) BSNL is providing as their Type IV modem..and other thing is MT841 will have a built in wireless card or will i have to buy it seperately and put ?

Simon

^ BSNL was supplying MT841 till recently and
some users have received it with built-in-card
and some have not .

At present BSNL has limited stock of Type IV
modems and BSNL is supposed to provide them
with the wireless card .

BSNL was charging Rs 600 Extra for the wireless card from the users , who requested for it after the purchase .Smart AX 841 with wireless card was made available at Rs. 2200 /- approx in the Last year by BSNL .open your modem carefully & you can see a slot forthe wireless card . It is similar ( but not the same )to the PCMCIA card present in the Laptops .

so if the slot is empty no wireless card am i right ?what is the modem and plan u are using and how is the overall connection ?

^ yes , the empty slot on MT841 indicates that it has no wireless card .[Off Topic] I am on Dataone Home 500 plan with MT880 . It has just a LAN port .
