i imagine it is generally measured in number of hours. and even that number is just an approximation based on tests. but i would have to say that LCDs have a shorter life than CRTs.

^ You will probably save Rs 500 / year in electricity , if you have no other use for a laptop & you want to upgrade your desktop then current gen cpus from Intel are very energy efficient .
Last month i upgraded from Intel dual core to i5 3rd GEN quad core. Earlier my APC 650va ups used to give 13-15 mins backup but now after the upgrade it gives 25-28 mins backup:Drool ():
FYI....im using the same old 20" LCD, cooler master 500w PSU, Nvidia GTS 450 with the newly upgraded PC.

E5300... Right. I think I remember this range. It was the generation after the Pentium D which were awful processors.

A more accurate calculation would be possible using a "power consumption Meter" but they are not available at affordable price in India.

However ebay USA lists many for around 10usd.

Having a 600w desktop SMPS doesn't mean it will consume 600watts at all times, depending on System Load and connected peripherals this would vary.
