Rock music ?Ppl still listen to rock music !!!I mean once you heard the *REAL* stuff from the 60s & 70s, ignored the hair bands of the 80s that only pre-pubescent teenagers like. What is there really left ?Am I in danger of offending 80% of the readership here..dearie dearie.

Hair bands? I am guessing that they are bands with long hair. Well if so then you are sure offending me. And yes some of the rock bands from the 60's and 70's were real good. Take for example AC/DC, Led Zep etc.

right, they are called hair bands cos thats all that was novel about them 😛..u have left out many..do some reading up..lots more listening.....then see what u think of ur hair bands...

..............n' DEWD u're point is??????

Rock doesn't rock anymore these days.....i think the last good one to come out was Greendays Jesus of Suburbia..still i don't think there was a complete album after the greendays one to actually scale those heights.well the search goes on...

the old one's rock... the new ones don't pen down meaningful lyrics and their music is simply meaningless noise. There is absolutely no voice quality.Bon Jovi, Def Leppard... they still ROCK and will forever!!

Nah,

not when you pass the age of 20 something.

See above re:hair bands.

Each generation thinks that the music they grew up listening to was the real stuff, and contemporary music is meaningless and stupid, just as how each generation (when they hit middle-age) think that the youth are disillusioned. It happened with blues, jazz, Rn'B (and I don't mean what Rn'B has now become), rock, hard rock, metal, rap etc.etc. and will continue to be such with Nu Metal and possibly most if not all subsequent forms of music.

Where did i say contempporary music is meaningless and stupid ? I hope to be rocking on the floor well into my 80s if i live that long.

Realise that each genre hits a peak at some point in time, it gets stale afterwards. The ignorant refuse to accept this and cling on...the progressive discover new avenues and start the ride again & again....Something i seriously hope happens here, with the internet with it's ways to broaden one's musical horizons.

When i say get the best music you want the stuff that came out beofre it hit that peak. Rock hit its peak in the late 70s..stuff before it is what built it. Stuff coming after it with very few exceptions is all tried & done. People that are ignorant of what came before don't realise this.

That is why i said read.... about the history of Rock from various sources, listen several times to the main players..then try listening to what you thought was good. I find that list changes for me every few years as genres come & go.

Taste can't be taught, you have to work at it.

I'm listening to some James Brown from the 60s & 70s, the amazing thing is that it *still* sounds great even today.

heh, blr_p, you misinterpreted it as being a reply to your posts. If at all, I was commenting on uthfull's post, though I think it more of a general rant. 🙂

Different strokes for different folks U say... not that all the contemporary music is shit... but I just can't get used to the excessive noise. I'm just 18 and most of my peers lik bands lik Linkin Park etc... Apart frm a few songs, I don't like the new bands. Its only bass mixed with loads of guitar and some shouting.
