Hello,I was planning on getting an iPhone 4 from the UK, since it being sold unlocked and using it in India. As per my knowledge, India and UK both have 2100 Mhz 3G Spectrum, so logically a phone which works in UK over 3G should do so in India as well..I just wanted to confirm because buying an iPhone and not being able to work it over 3G would be a bummer. (Specially since 3G auctions are done, and one could expect carriers to start 3G Data services by early next year.)Also, is there a legal channel to import an iPhone from the UK/Europe ?Thanks.

^ The phone would work in India. Also, it would be cheaper if you can get someone to get it for you personally. If however, that's not possible, there are various channels like shopyourworld.com where you can get it from Amazon.co.uk, or other courier services like Aramex which can pick it up for you from there. Remember though that these alternatives would prove to be costly.

Thanks for the reply. I just wanted to make sure that it will support Indian 3G. I did check out ebay and Amazon, but no listings yet, probably will have to wait for someone to get it personally, or a month, for the market to settle down, so that its in stock. Thanks anyways.

Hi,Even i was planning to get iphone4 from US.. buy it as non contract from AT&T. Wanted to confirm if its possible to unlock it and use it here.. Also, there was a supposed video from a guy claimin to be an Apple employee suggesting tht iPhone will update the user data to get the carrier used and locks it if not AT&T. Anyone knows if its true..all in all is it wrth to get the iphone4 from US

I just ordered iPhone 4 through Shopyourworld as you suggested.. They told me that it will be delivered to me by 25th July(approx) since Apple UK is going to ship out the 2nd lot from 14th July so I decided to order now then wait longer...
I think its worth waiting....

Hey.. Do tell us how much duty you are paying... since it says only products below 10000 are duty free...

^ catch is the word "gift" ..many times the custom deptt. doesnt regard the import as a gift and levies full duty on it

even if you buy the iPhone 4 ...how will you get the micro sim ??

Not a big deal. There are instructions and videos online to cut the regular SIM to the shape of a micro SIM.

How much were you quoted for the whole thing?

shopyourworld includes the customs in the pricing. Also, this being a phone shouldn't *ideally* attract duty.

Are you sure that we neednt pay even a paise more to customs other than the amount we pay through the website?Someone who has purchased something expensive from Shopyourworld.com kindly provide some input. Thanks

^ Sites like 20north, shopyourworld, icc etc include the customs in the price that you pay so the shipping is much quicker and there are no stoppages at the customs office. That is not the case when you buy from a site directly and give the shipping address as India.

agantuk! Thanks for throwing light on this buddy! You're a nice person for taking time to respond to my doubts..
