If you use BSNL broadband you no longer need to visit the site to check your bandwidth use, just use DataFox instead. DataFox will get the details from BSNL and display them inside chrome for you. If you enter your bandwidth limit, DataFox will also display a handy pie chart indicating whether you are using your bandwidth at an acceptable rate - or not!

59.x users of BSNL should choose an appropriate 10.x IP from the domain combo on the login page or enter the IP you normally use to check usage. You can also use sancharnet.in which will automatically pick an IP for you - at this time though, the site it redirects me to is broken - YMMV.

117.x users of BSNL should choose data.bsnl.in from the domain drop down.

Privacy: DataFox for Chrome is a port of DataFox for Firefox which was also written by me. The Firefox version has been downloaded over 100,000 times and has been around for almost 3 years. This extension is open source, your username and password is only used to login to the BSNL server.

If you experience any issues, do post them in this thread. I will be monitoring for issues and suggestions.

Very cool. Maybe we should have something similar built for us.

will try and give feedback. Mine is 59.xx.xx.xx
For 117.xx.xx.xx Bsnl has started decentralising the BB usage page.
Being shifted to selfcare portals.
Already OpenDNS for Hyderabad
selfcare.sdc.bsnl.co.in name shown above misleading.
http:///selfcare.wdc.bsnl.co.in for ( Maharashtra Goa under trial )
CRM for Orissa mostly

have been been introduced.
Data fox , if accessing data.bsnl.in will not work for these users.
( please add additional remark for 117.xx.xx.xx users )

Local check for all users ( not based on ISP's usage portals )
Bandwidth monitor, bandwidth speed test, bandwidth and traffic monitoring tool for Windows
gives hourly/daily/weekly/monthly data.

@mgcarley
presume for your users you have a usage portal, where they can
monitor their usage. Rather you should incorporate a facility
to pop up a message showing total usage as soon as user is connected to your network.
( ( long back SIFY/VSNL had this facility for 56K dialup users )
Datafox extracts usage data from BSNl MTNL mumbai Delhi usage web sites and mainly used ONLY in FireFox.
Now introduced for Google Chrome.
As there was not much demand from Airtel users , not added.

All ISP's like BSNL/MTNL/AIRTEL etc provide this facility.

essbebe,Thanks for the response - did it work for you in chrome?RE: selfcare portals - yes, really have to start taking a look at this for both FF and Chrome. If I understand you correctly, there are now two selfcare portals and for users who have been moved to these portals, data.bsnl.in will no longer work? Do you still login with the same details? (14 digit portal id + password?)Brian.

Brian.

Hi Brian, if you just open this page (BSNL Portal), no need to log in, you'll see the latest news on which areas have been migrated to the new selfcare portals.

As I pointed out elsewhere (https://broadband.forum/bsnl-broadband/58969-bsnl-broadband-self-care-portal-disaster/), the one for Kalyan, Maharashtra, is a total disaster.

And to my mind, you have to pick a new username and password at the new portal.

Hi Brian, .

Plese email your UserId and PW for Loading Portal...

As you mentioned if the website is erratiic
dataFox also cannot display the usage.

I think it would make more sense for Brian to work on a selfcare portal that has been notified than to spend his effort on something that hasn't yet been properly operationalised. In any case, it is the same set that I sent you.

@ BrianI am using ULF 1100. Is there any method for me to see how much FUP data is remaining. If you can add it, it will be a great boon. Most of ULF users depend on the bandwidth meter for this purpose. I have seen usage data diagram. If it can set to FUP also (in BSNL site, chargeable units will be zero), it will be nice.

Dilip,Is DataFox currently capable of showing you at least how much data you have consumed? What site is your usage being reported on? You can set the bandwidth limit to the fair usage limit and then DataFox should still work. Or - are you saying that the site is showing 0 as your chargeable units and therefore DataFox thinks you have used nothing?

@aesouzaWithout your permission I cannot divulge the ID and PW you have sent me for testing.Assuming now, i have your permission sent PM to author for testing. Thanks for cooperation.@infernalproteuspleasse check your Inbox for P.M.

Datafox is now showing the usage of total upload and download. I use data.bsnl.in for values. It is exactly as you mentioned. The datafox is showing usage as zero even after entering the bandwidth limit. Thanks for the quick response. I should thank you for such a nice tool.

Working very well, under Chromium 5.0.342.7 (42476), OS: Lucid Puppy 5.0.Thanks. 😀
