Another Query About Nu

Consider the foll scenario :

i reboot the router at 12:15 ...start downloading stuff....and pause the download at 7:50 am.(note that i do not reboot the router again)

there is no d/l from 7:50 am to say 10:00am. I finally reboot the router at 10:00 am.
So i shudnt be billed at all, right?? or will i be billed for all the stuff i downloaded throughout the night??

again people's views are 50-50 on this...so any further clarification from the experienced pro's would really be welcome.

According to Mtnl you should disconnect after 12 and before 8 am. NOw what if I disconnect after 12 and don't disconnect at 8 the next morning but disconnect the morning after.Meaning if I disconnect on the 5 at 12 am and then I don't disconnect at 8 am (still the 5th) but disconnect on the 6th at 8. Would that be free?Because according to mtnl to get free downloads you gotta..blah blah... and if you don't you get charged. So if I do the above I shouldn't get charged. I can't seem to explain this better... I hope someone understands this.

This happened to me recently. (I'm on bridged mode, so when I say 'disconnected', it is equivalent to you saying 'rebooted the router').

I disconnected at 12 AM and started downloading. I disconnected in the morning at around 10 AM. All this time (between 12 AM and 10 AM), a file was being downloaded from an HTTP server, at an average speed of 26KBps.
My Session History for that day only displayed the bandwidth used from 8 AM to 10 AM. This was approximately 154 MB. If MTNL were to charge me the bandwidth used for the entire night's duration (12 AM to 10 AM), my Session History would have displayed around 854 MB. (The numbers may not be exact, but you get the idea 🙂 )

So, from this we can conclude that only the bandwidth used after 8 AM is charged for.

geekhead83, in your case, since you did not download anything from 8 AM to 10 AM, it should not make any difference. The end result is the same as if you had rebooted the router at 8 AM. If you had downloaded something between 8 AM and 10 AM, then you would have been charged for it.

(Note - Just to clarify, when I say 'charged for it', I mean that much bandwidth will be reduced from your monthly 1 GB quota).

Please let me know if anything is not clear.

In any case, to be on the safe side, just reboot the router at 12 AM, and 8 AM, and be done with it. This is easily automated using the in-built Windows Task Scheduler, and there is no excuse for not doing so !

I have automated the process to do this daily, for the past 9 months, and have not had any billing problems whatsoever. The instance I quote above, where I overran the NU time by 2 hours, was when I mistakenly fiddled with my scheduled task settings.

Search the forum for these automation techniques (there are different methods for bridged and PPPoE modes). Most of those threads are stickied in this forum. If you need any help, don't hesitate to ask.

Can't say Mtnl has catched this thing up or not. 🙂 Don't know the billing coding. 😉
Wait for some of Mtnl NU expert reply and who knows we might be near another flaw of billing or what we call
Mtnl gift to its customer.

i can see the amount downloaded during night in my "session history".i set dis download at 12:05 am (11:57pm according to mtnl :angry: ) and stop it at 7:50am. not charged for the 800MB downloaded!same case if disconnect after 8:10am. only the data d/l b/w 8-8:10am is charged!
