Double speeds are gone. I am back to 256kbps from today morning. 🙁

But didn't the press release say double speeds are till 30.04.2010?

Same here. Went back to 256 from 512 yesterday afternoon. Have been having a few issues with Google DNS not responding as the trace route failed. BSNL DNS working fine though.Looks like the offer has been withdrawn now that IPL 3 is finished. Too bad, it was good while it lasted!!

I am experiencing good download speeds but the surfing speed has become so frustrating that sometimes I feel like banging the enter button so hard as to break it to be able to get on to the website I am trying to open.

The surfing speed now is inconsistent and it is worse than what it used to be until March 31st when this so called double speed hadnt come into picture.

Very likely that they killed the plan because of the cable cut issue, Airtel seem to have done something similar.

The cable cut issue cannot have a unique situation where you get a good download speed and bad surfing speed. They told me theres something wrong with the server.

Has someone any idea on whether BSNL and other ISPs will continue providing higher speeds after 30th april or will come up with any plans that would get us the benefits of higher speeds at not so higher prices?

Airtel and BSNL both reduced their speeds by double rate. (512 to 256 and 1mbps to 512, etc) Just because of the recent cable cut.
Airtel has confirmed that they will upgrade all plans to minimum speed of 512 by June. But BSNL has no information about it. Their site only tells about the limited time frame for the double speed. But some of the members in the forum are also sharing that it might stay in order to compete with other ISPs as they are also changing their plans.

why not reduce the charges to half as well for the period speeds are reduced to half?

good idea but look the fact that BSNL got no brain to work on it

We have to remember that BSNL is giving free double speed this month. And the speeds we get right now are the speeds we all subscribed to. We can't force BSNL for this matter. But its Airtel which needs to do that work.

Since I do not have the option of airtel broadband in the area of Pune I am residing in, I have to count on BSNL and/or Tata Indicom to upgrade their speeds in the near future so that I have a chance to avail the same.

Finally, the BSNL speed has been reduced back to original. It will only frustrate the users who have now got used to higher speeds 😀

citizens of india are deprived of even internet bandwidth (who the hell set the minimum criteria for broadband as 256kbps you cant even watch a single youtube video in it)

Hmmm... so the news in some forum was false. Looks like BSNL doesn't want to stay in order to compete with other ISPs!!!
