I have a Nokia Siemens ADSL2 Residential 1600 modem-router. Things were working fine till couple of days back when there was a Broadband outage for 8 hours here. After that I am noticing a strange issue with the connection. Now the DSL light keeps blinking and the Internet light never comes up. But if I pick up the phone and give a missed ring to any other phone number, the Internet light comes up as well and everything starts working. Things work for half-hour to an hour, and then again the DSL light goes to blinking. I have to do the same missed call route to get the Internet connection back.Any idea why this might be happening?Other information: I am in NIB-2 connection range. I have changed my MTU setting in the router from 1492 to 1452 to overcome the "some sites not accessible" problem. Thanks for any input.

From modem Statistics ADSLPost screenshot of this page showing snr attn etc.Presume ALL your phones connected AFTER the adsl spliiterin Phone Port. ( No Direct to BSNL Phone Box anywhere ) Any Hiss Noise in telephone after you get connected to BB ?This router may be same as WA3002-g4 see sticky post wa3002-g4 in BSNl Broadband forum. compare the screen shots as given in Chennai website.Test 1 : keep the handset OFF Test 2 : Call your own number from external source. ( cell phone etc )Test 3 : Disconnect all phones and try .

Hello essbebe,
Thanks for your reply. Please find attached the modem statistics screenshot.

Also find attached a figure explaining the phone line. I do get a hiss noise in the phone after I have connected the modem-router.

I have used the Chennai BSNL page to setup my modem-router, so the settings are exactly the same (except the MTU setting, which was not there in the BSNL Chennai page. It was set at 1492 and later facing the "some sites not accessible" problem, I changed it to 1452).

Results of other 3 tests: in the first case there wasn't any change in the behavior. I could call the home number from the cell phone (and that caused the router to connect to Internet - seems like it worked basically as a missed call as I stated in my OP). In the third case, that's also the same - nothing different.

YOUR SNR is low and Attn high. ideally it should be reversed !!
IN DSl menu uncheck adsl2+ mod mode. see any other mod mode selected and improvement
in SNR recommended higher than 10 db ATTN. less than 20 db
If following implemented SNR also may improve.
I do get a hiss noise in the phone after I have connected the modem-router
LOSS of ADSL DATA. ADSL data signals not blocked to Phone handset.
YOur ADSLSplitter is ( with LINE PORT two outlets PHONE PORT Modem Port.:
From Main BSNL Phone junction connect the ADSL SPLITTER
From the PHONE Port maximum three to four phones can be connected.
If this is not possiblle use additional ADSL SPLITTER ( as supplied by BSNL ) for Each PHONE. in different rooms.
Modem can be connected directly to Phone line. provided
above usage of adsl splitters for each Telephone is implemented.
( ordinary two way three way Phone splitters will not do)

Hello essbebe,I contacted BSNL customer support and 2 persons came in to check what's going on. They reported some server problem for the DSL connection issue, changed the splitter and also changed a few things in the circuit on their side for the hiss sound in the phone line. Things are looking good now with phone and Internet working simultaneously without any issues. Thanks again for your help - I do value your knowledgeable input.Regards.
