Fat32 And A 4gb File

I'm trying to set of rar files that contain a single ISO for a dvd. The ISO is about 4.4GB and everytime I unrar it I get an error saying only NTFS supports files bigger then 4GB.Is there anyway I can unrar this file on fat32.

No, you can't. FAT32 can't handle files bigger than 4GB. So you'll have to unrar it on an NTFS volume. Only other thing i can suggest is....when u open the rars in Winrar u should see .iso file. Double click on that and u should be able to view the files contained in the iso. Now it's safe to assume that no single file in the iso will be greater than 4GB, so simply extract these files (not the iso itself) to another location and burn em on to a dvd maintaining the same file structure.

I still dont get it would you plz be more specific im trying to get it done but i dont understand.

The maximum file size on a FAT32 formatted partition is4 GB or 4,294,967,296 bytes minus 2 bytes ...NTFS file system has a (theoretical) maximum file size of16 exabytes or 18,446,744,073,709,551,616 bytes (2^64 sectors) ...NTFS system is far better at holding large data files but is more unstable than Fat32...not to mention the DOS compatibility issues it comes with. In your case Fat 32 cant handle a whole image which is more than 4 Gb. The reason behind this is that the full image cant be unrared as it is bound to exceed more when it gets ripped out.So to be more precise what water wants you to do is something like this:1) Doubleclick on the winrar file2) Double click on the DVD Image file [ISO in your case]3) You will see the list of files on the DVD image now. If its a Media DVD then you will see a bunch on .VOB files and if it is a software or a Game DVD then you will see a whole list of lotta programs. Whatever the case maybe its a 99% probability that no file in it would be more than 4 GB. The whole bunch collectively makes it a 4Gb data.4) Simply extract one file after another from the image and then when you have unrared all..put it in one folder and enjoy.

I have a similar problem, but the saving grace is that the fat32 partitions are on an external drive. I think I want to convert all these partitions to NTFS now. I had initially formatted them with FAT32 because I had a Windows 98 laptop.So two questions:1) How do I convert them? (Can I just use the disk manager thing in Windows 2000 or is it better to use something like partition magic)?2) Is there any risk of losing data on conversion?

1) Partition Magic is safe and perfect enough. 2) You are totally changing the way your hard disk's method of storing data. Its like a fresh new start. For example its like you are razing down your house to make a bunglow. Offcourse if you will raze it down with your TV and porn 😉 still inside i am afraid you best friends[xD] will be lost forever. Likewise u better make a backup and then convert your file system. 🙂

Does that mean that I will lose my data 100% or that there is just a mere chance of that happening? I have a 20GB internal hdd and a 160GB external (which I want to convert to NTFS) so I'm afraid backing up isn't a very feasible solution 🙂 (I sure as hell am not burning 30-40 DVDs!!!)How long does it take to convert a drive approximately? I have a super duper UPS (lasts 2-3 hours) but it needs to be repaired. Would that be enough?

the lesser the number of files the better. i think it manually processes each file on the drive... not sure as i stopped using the fat 32 mode a couple of years ago.

im scared i might lose data on the hard drive 🙁 Can u suggest me a very good reliable software that can convert my E drive to NTFS

the only safe way would be to take backup. coz if the process is interrupted... data would go crap. any software. 😕

I converted two of my FAT32 partitions to NTFS 3 weeks back. No data lost. But it can be if your pc goes off during the conversion.Be safe.

I have 35 GB data on a 40 GB external drive, USB 1.0 which is still with FAT32. How much time would it take my desktop to convert this external drive to NTFS. Please note that the 1.0 USB causes things to slow down, so how much time would I need to take the risk of conversion. Best wishes.
