Apple seems to have cancelled its plans to outsource techsupport to India. I was surprised by some of the responses to this on mac forum, some of it bordering on racism -

According to the IndiaTimes, Apple is deciding against placing its previously reported foreign support center in India.

At a meeting on May 29, Apple announced its decision to lay off all its [Indian support] employees. Apple officials told them that "the company is reevaluating its operations and has thought of pulling back its Indian operations".

Apple is giving these employees a severance package of two months salary. It will settle all claims on June 9. When contacted, Steve Dowling, an Apple spokesperson, said, "We have re-evaluated our plans and have decided to put our planned support centre growth in other countries."

Well I-pod isint a kinda rage in India....nor is Macintosh. So if Apple is indeed pullin out of this then i wouldnt be surprised. Yet i am quite surprised by the racism stuff. I guess when Americans couldnt defeat African American, Chinese and Koreans on their lands they started nuking people distant to their lands like India. Cant belive we have entered 21st century and still debatin racism.

You will see this more with support stuff that deal with the public rather than within a company, the simple reason is that equipmenti in a company is more locked down than what the public has and also has anti-discriminatory laws in place.Dealing with the public especially for a image conscious Apple would be harder to do in India, i'm amazed they were even able to setup shop here, given their

Apple can certainly live without the customer complaints related to poor support from indian guys... and apple needed a significant setup in india for any cost savings. they would be better off with a support base setup in the US itself... as Sun said sometime ago, india is not as cheap as people believe it is. if decent customer support guys demand as much as 30k a month as the base salary... running a good quality call center is complicated business today.

I think this center was more into Software development (and less into support as news suggests).Apple's call center is has been in India for a few years now. It is handeled by Transworks.

problem is that Apple is intended at a select few with big bucks. they just cant afford the Indian accent to offend such people 😉
