dont go for pixelview PV-M4500 tv tuner card i have it and it sucks not good picture quality. . i havent used pinnacle 50i but i wouldnt recommend it. if u want average picture quality both of them are good. but if u want good picture quality with low resource usage look for a tv tuner card with mpeg hardware encoding(pixelview @P7000).i wouldnt recommend Sony dvd writers they are overpriced & sony DRU-820A is a benq DW1670 rebadgelook for benq dvd writers the are much cheaper and better

If you love your PC don't put in Tv tuner card in it!1. It makes your cpu 100% in use.2. It decreases the life of your computer.It's My personel experience man.

So ... some valuable comments on TV tuner card. Point taken 'devil'. Now how about the budget for the main items atleast, 'looking forward' budget costs please. Does the config put up by me match for best performance? this is important since 'value for money' is reqd. Are the stated items available with guarantee support. How about the power supply? will 350 W rms be adequate considering that four bays are loaded and TV card is in place. Maybe later something could be put in the ePCI slot. What is the difference between hdd: seagate model: ST3200827AS and ST3200827AS-R. I believe these will provide SATA-300 bandwidth which ought to be adequate for good quailty TV downloads. Will one hour download need only 3GB of hdd volume? There is recent positive talk of MTNL in Mumbai providing IPTV. Would the TV card suggested: Pixelview P7000 still be useful with IPTV. Will they need some extra card to go into computer, if yes will the ePCI slot be backward compatible. Comment please. Best wishes.

u dont require a TV tuner card for IPTV350W power supply will probably be inadequate...go for 450W Power Supply Unitas far as prices are concerned the place to ask them would be at a computer hardware store near u.there are a couple hardware stores in Sunil shopping center near navrang cinema in Andheri(W).

One word of advice. Wait. Dont buy anything right now. The new Core Duos and Solos are on the way. The processor you have chosen is a power hog. It will heat up and do nothing more. Go in for an AMD64 if your requirements for a high end processor are urgent. It will run much cooler.

Point well taken 'max'. I am the patient type. My present rig is working fine and I have just got the itch again. As you suggest ... I will wait. Do you feel the Intel-Pentium D920 would also be running hot? With the 65 nM technology, I feel it may be burning only 80 Watts RMS and so be better than the D820 with its 120 Watts RMS. Am I about right? The issue of of IPTV not needing a TV tuner card is noted. However, I suppose there will be some software provided by MTNL for client end. How about DTH ... would this use the same TV-tuner card as cable TV? In my geographic area, TATA-Sky is supposed to launch mid-July and I do not want to get the usual tuner card and then find that DTH needs some new doodad to enable desktop viewing. Any comments on DTH and desktops ... hardware, software, display memory, processor and memory usage? Best wishes.

Well DTH works on current TV sets. So going by that logic , you will need a TV Tuner only to view DTH . Now, since DTH is a digital transmission, you need a descrabling/decoding unit with the DTH antenna , which is a part of the standard DTH installation for TV sets.But , taking advantage of the digital nature of DTH signals, I am sure manufacturers will find a way to cook up a PCI card or something to directly apply DTH digital signals to the PC, and then view them, eliminating the descrambler/decoder. But beware that nascent technologies take very long to reach the Indian market , and more so as DTH is still new here.So investing in a TV card is not a bad option, just check for that encoding/recording capability. The recording results from DTH signals will be truly amazing .

In my geographic area, Tata-Sky has started installation of ducting and dish for DTH. They are talking of trials in this coming July. Also, they mention about a 'box' ... probably a set top box.

This causes me to wonder ... would I need a seperate box for the desktop? I suppose the box will give an analog signal thru a coaxial cable to the standard TV, so same should work for the desktop with TV card. However, the need for a box remains. Can anyone confirm this? Already, DTH has 4 million installaitions in India, mostly 'DD direct+' or whatever.

It seems to me that IPTV is the best bet ... thru our infamous MTNL wired connection. This is their 'three-way option'. Reliance and Airtel is also talking about IPTV sometime in July. Kindly read, Business World, 12th June edition, page 46. Bharti Airtel has begun 'free trials' with IPTV in Gurgaon.

In current scene, you will need a TV Tuner card. And also the "box" mentioned by Tata-Sky people. That box is what I actually meant by digital-to-analog converter. I am not sure of the IPTV thingie, never seen trials/demos yet, cant comment on that. And who knows , with MTNL/BSNL for IPTV they may say, 30hrs/per month at 500bux and then Rs.20 per hour extra!!!!!!! 😉Going by the current absurd data caps in broadband.

i dont think IPTV is going to become mainstream in India anytime soonMTNL doesnt even provide unlimited broadband connection

i am waiting for vista to release(ya, long time to wait!)but the plus point is that the hardwares will also get better as the time comes (for vista release) and would make a virtually future-proof machine!
