I'm for that unlimited plan as well. Can't wait till I can increase my speeds up. Plus, when I go back to the states, man I'm going to love 6mbps speeds. 😀.

ok, has anyone received their first bill, after the hotwire tariff revision? i've opted for the 96kb/ul package... and even though there's no info at hotwire's official page, while upgrading, i did hear the word "ruby" being used to describe my choice.ryan, your info suggests ruby's tariff is rs. 666 (hmm... strange choice of number ;-) ... anyway, the bill i got was for 784... service tax hasn't changed in this past month, and remains at 10.2%... so, calculations reveal the bill to be rs.50 (~7.5%) *more*is this a "LCO charge" or something?ok, "50" isn't much, but if this 'little' anomaly is attached (i.e. the thought connected) to the larger scam going by the name 'broadband'... hmm... :-(

yeah. 666 is the actual price without taxes, but like you said, interesting number because it's the devil's number. anyway. Usually the CTO doesn't take service charges, he just charges the 10.2% service tax. total tariff should come to 734. He maybe taking extra. You should ask him, because my CTO only took 734. Or maybe he's taking some extra installation charges or something. I haven't got my bill yet but it's a prepaid scheme. No it isn't a scam buddy, i've been on hotwire for the longest time since i moved to delhi.

strange problem happens on my hotwire every morning (~7.30/8am) ... i'm in the 61.16.150.xxx range, and when i try to load the authentication page, it refuses to come up... the "website found, waiting for reply" message does come, but times out. also, pinging 61.16.150.1 (this range's gateway etc etc) is possible, but doing the same for hotwireindia.com times out...anyone experiencing these/similar problems?

i've two computers (got them after spending five years on a p-cel333/64mb), and am getting a 'great' 10-12kb/s on hotwire's 96kB/ul package. ok, so here's the scam. suppose i link the two comps via a router... will i get the 10-12kb/s *at*the*same*time*on*both ??

The bandwidth will probably be divided such that each computer gets half of it. No extra speed for you.

yeah, tried it out, doesn't work :-( wel, it obviously wouldn't, as the speed set/metered for my ip/acct is restricted...

testsubjectalpha, if you're networking two computers together, it doesn't matter what isp you use, your speed will get divided up. Yeah I'm gettin the same speeds and very high at night, upto 48kBps download speed.

well starting from 10 o'clock.. i don't know if speeds increase because i go to sleep at around this time.. sometimes 12

the 61.16.150.1 must have gone down last night ("connection refused" etc etc.) and speeds jumped to 60-100 kilobytes/sec...

good things aren't meant to last :-(

hotwire bumped me up from their 64k to 96k plan... the first month showed a speed increase ("speed"? haha :-( ) but all march, i've been stuck in the 6.8-7k/s range. any others having the same experience? shouldn't this new plan ("ruby") theoretically mean speeds of upto 10k?there must be some way other than giving a disinterested "line-boy/bill collector" an earful (which he sympathetically might nod his head to, but forget/ignore as soon as he's out of the door)... i think this recent "notification", of the 256k v/s 'broadband' anomaly present all of us a good opportunity, to think of ways for/of collective action.those of you living in delhi must've surely noticed mtnl's ad's, offering its wares... the focus being 1) minimal speed of 256k, and 2) "unlimited time". the catch, of course, is the scam with the data limit...hoping some suggestions are thrown up...

Sometimes, speeds may drop to that, but I have never experienced such low speeds using hotwire. I will be switching over to the 128 kbps plan after this month, as I want to get a faster speed. Otherwise, you can just contact this cable guy and ask him why the decrease of speed so often.

hmm this thread's been inactive for a while now... but are any of you guys (who are on hotwire) getting the impression that hotwire is blocking bittorrent?

Hotwire doesnt block anything. Check your upload speed. Maybe that is the reason for your impression i.e. if you dont give anything on a p2p network u dont get anything

The 64 K plan (hotwire gold old) that i had one year back had an official upload speed of 16 Kbps, maybe its the same in the new 64 K plan.
