am off sify and life is so good now.dunno whetheer this has been discussed before.jus outta curiosity. during my sify term, i checked with many softwares which have failed to recognize any open ports except for 25 and 110 tcp(which i suppose are for outgoing mail and stuff) and no udp.while azureus always shows that almost all ports are open and the bbimpsec allows users to open blocked ports, as in all the ports were really open!can the guru's confirm whether the ports are really open or what.

open hai bhaijaanits already discussed

i use this software called Ppingtools 2.6when i ran it on sify connection. it showed only 25 & 110 (all tcp)open.on mtnl it shows 22,25,80,110,23,21 (all tcp) open.ny other way of testin it out.or can som1 post the link to previous topic where this was discussed.

I think SIFY uses UPnP in their gateways. Hence when requested by applications which use UPnP protocol (like Azureus) , the gateways of Sify forward those ports to ypur computer. But if you check just like that , no port will be shown open. Same applies for the DSL routers. There is a way to enable UPnP in them too.

I would say that the ports are closed mateys !!!!! Coz i hav fought with the cc execs for over 1 week and in the end they opened them for me !!!!!!!! They do close them from the back , and they dont know how to open them !! I talked to a guy who said that he was the person who handeles firewall n all for all of sify , nd he said the ports r open !!!! Later on he himself called , apologised nd said the ports WERE closed due to the firewall !!! So then the opened and it is showin opened !! U can check ur port status at "https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2"If it shows stealth , that means the ports r closed !!! If it shows open or closed , then the ports aint blocked And by the way , Azureus requires ports 6881-6889 to work !!!!!!! 🙂

most ports are closed . for me port 80,22,23 are only open .

lol no dude . sify's has ultimate stupid lan system . They dont use upnp or anything at all as it is not completely NATing connections behind one internet ip .

Azureus doesnt need ports 6881-6889.
it can work from any port you specify in the settings , provided its not blocked by any firewall.
On the contrary , many trackers ban clients using the default 6881-6889 ports , as these ports are throttled by many ISP's , and using these ports reduces the swarm speeds.
So if at all anyone is using these ports, shift to a port higher than 50000.

thats ture but the problem is sify ass*oles DO NOT open any port above 5000 or anything . i have extensively checked from online scanners ( like grc) they can access only port 80,22,23 on my pc . rest all are blocked right at isp end ( i shut my fwall before testing ) . if i use port 80,22,23 then torrent client runs ok but when i change to any other i get NAT error bcoz port is blocked . So when on private tracker i cant use port below 1025 🙁 and 6881-6889 and i stick to any random higher port with nat error but after sometime it does connect to peer and dload goes at good speed ( just takes more time ) . on public trackers port 22,23 works mostly .

I dunno man , but from wat i have seen on torrent guides , ports 6881-6889 are the ones in which torrents r the fastest !! I could be wrong , but this is not discussion for torrents !! Its for ports !! And port 80 is open only coz if dey close it too, no one would b able to surf !!! The b*@tards !!! Well , try contactin the cc's if u hav time to waste , u mite b able to argue them to open them , like they did for me !!! And they really do open them !!!!!!

browsing doesnt require port 80 of *YOUR* pc open . isp can block all 65535 ports(incoming) still u can browse/chat or do most of stuff .

LOL Sify people dont even know their network basics!!@phoenixIts not true that torrents run fast on default ports. It can run well on any port you give , providd there are no conflicts with other apps and they are not blocked by any firewall.I myself have tried all sorts of combinations.Default ports worked well for me too , but not on private trackers.@power When you checked from GRC , the open ports are on the LAN gateway machine,l whose IP address you specify in the LAN connection settings. Unless you run a webserver from your home , there is no business of port 80 remaining open.Even ports 22 and 23 are for SSH and TELNET , which does not run on a PC normally .

ah aniketvb this is around third time i am saying u that the ip i get on login is not of my gateway but my own . Sify assigns different internet ip on login even if on same lan gateway router is transparent in this . So when grc scan pc all packets to the ip are directed to my PC by router . Suppose i put 2 machines on sify lan and login on both machines i get 2 DIFFERENT internet ip's on both , the gateway is not natting all connections on one internet ip . I hope you get it this time 🙂 .I check on grc . When i have no app running on port i get message CLOSED and when i make some app ( netcat or any web server ) run on that port , i get status OPEN .
