Hi all,

You can check out my bad experience with Hathway on this thread. I live in Madhapur (Vittal Rao Nagar) and I just have the option of following ISPs :

a ) Tata Indicom
b ) Hathway
c ) Beam Cable
d ) BSNL (dont have a land line)

The options ( b ) and ( c ) are definitely out for me. I have had nightmarish experiences with both of the ISPs... I earlied had Airtel, but it does not provide services where i am currently residing. ..

Is Tata Indicom worth subscribing to? I went to a near-by office and got to know of some plan where I pay 3600 INR and get internet connection for four months (unlimited 128kbps) without need of paying any deposit or installation charges... just wondering whether it is a good option? What about the speed fluctuations? I have been promised that a minimum of 100kbps will always come... is this true?

Let anyone from hyderabad narrate their expeirences....

i would recommend BSNL.

A BSNL landline would take some time to get installed and it would be a hassel to go through the procedure... Is Tata Indicom broadband really not worth taking?

What are the usual issues people are facing?

Well as far as I have seen in Mumbai, even getting a Tata connection is full of hassles.A friend of mine got one in chembur area. Initailly they came when called to take the money, and then there was a huge delay in getting the connection installed and working. So either way you are not going to get hassle free connection , so why not go for BSNL and take advantage of the better plans.(900 UL 256kbps)

My experience with Tata Indicom has been poor and I wouldn't recommend them if you have a decent alternative. The installation process was a huge headache and took three weeks instead of the promised one. Since then their service has remained quite poor with some problem or the other on most weeks. Recently their customer service wait times have become ridiculous as well with an 8-10 minute wait being quite common.I would definitely have switched if Airtel was available in my area and I have often considered switching anyway. Overall , however, the alternatives in my area don't seem to be worth the hassles of ordering a new connection so I have stuck with T Indicom for the time being.

I had the same perception about it, but two days ago I applied to Tata-Indicom Walky and to my surprise yesterday it got installed and working. And I asked few people nearby and they say that their service has been excellent... so thats why thought that may be they have similar good services for broadband conenction too...

But one thing i feel is that their broadband service is way too costly....

BSNL-> the 256 unlimited rs900 plan is giving good speeds i hear..poor CCTata-> Good CC, good speeds, bad ..no..wait.. horrible plans..

Since you mentioned Airtel, let me tell you about my experience. I was in Hyderabad at that time, and had a good experience with the internet, and they had thrown in a 'free telephone connection' in with it. Then in Sept 2009, I asked them to change my internet package to an Unlimited broadband package with a slower speed, so that the monthly bill would be lowered to Rs. 500/- per month(because I was going abroad). I started getting monthly bills of Rs. 726/-, the extra over 500/- being for the phone usage. Then 6 months later, in May this year, I got a bill for 1500/- I paid without a demur, and asked my brother to just keep a check on his phone usage. Despite total control over phone usage (he uses a mobile phone for almost all his work) we got a July bill of 2200/- When I returned to India in August, I immediately disconnected the internet and took up a Beam Tele connection, and when the CC from Airtel called, I told them to give me an explanation for the sudden jump in the bills. After a lot of iteration and consultation, requiring me to repeat the problem in detail to at least 4 CC executives, the answer so far I have got is that the change happened because I opted for a Limited Broadband package with a 'download limit'. The subsequent questions: (1) How did this switch happen when I was not even in India to request this switch, and my brother never called customer care for it? (2) Are you going to accept this as an error on your side and revert the charges or not?-these questions have been left unanswered. I got a bill for 2200/- for the month of Aug 2010, but have paid only 726/- which was the exact figure I paid every month between Oct 2009 and May 2010; now I am going to let them do all the hard work on this, and the maximum they can do is disconnect the phone and go to court to extract the money from me. In conclusion, I want to tell the guys in this forum (and I registered here just for this) is that these companies will always take you for a ride if they can get a chance, it doesn't matter if the name is spelled T-A-T-A or A-I-R-T-E-L or any other way. Taking a download-limit package gives them just such an opportunity to exploit the customer. If the connection is slow or unreliable, then the service is poor as well, which is an added negative point. I wish forums like this could get more teeth to ensure that these companies are made to heel and obey the law (the spirit of the law, that is!).

I suggest if you are living in hyderabad and beam cable is available go for that... i heard it has really good plans
