I have been using the D-Link 502T since April 2005.Never had a problem. I am not sure of the other stuff.I had been to lamington road last week and it was selling for Rs 2000/- with 1 Yr warranty.

Had been using D-Link 502T for last 7 months. Never had any issue with it. Is available in hypercity mall Malad for 2k.

I have used both and i can safely say that UTstar is a lot better than D-Link crap.I'll start of with a historical comparison first. DLink introduced the modem in Indian market without properly testing its firmware in the first place..result was many people like me had to change it twice or thrice coz of its tendency to hang..moreover intially dlink refused to admit there was a problem and it took them ages to upload a new firmware on their site. Apart from this problem the drivers for USB interface were crappy as well. many people using the USB mode had constant time out problems. I never used the USB mode and now i dont have the dlink so i cant say if the problem has been resolved or it still exists. This was not expected of an intl co like dlink which does enjoy considerable good reputation. I doubt if they would have acted in the same way in the more demanding european/american markets. In short their attitude was like "its a third world country throw any crap u like into it"incontrast I have been using the utstar for about 2-3 months now and never faced any problem with it. USB interface is fine, no problem with the firmware, web interface is nice and clean. Moreover it has 2 functions which were not there in the dlink ie a dynamic DNS function and also Q.O.S (though its configurable only from telnet)Another very important advantage that UTStar has over dlink is that Dlink was highy unsuited to the power situation prevailing in India. It was higly intolerant of power fluctuations, inspite of being connected to the UPS it regularly used to lose the link with the exchange whenever there was a short power cut and then never recover. UTstar has till now never lost the link inspite of numerous power cuts in the 2 month period that i have used it.I also have a feeling that its more tolerant to disturbances in the line though its not established as yet.So, i definitely recommend Utstar over Dlink but at the end of the day its a subjective thing and its a choice which the buyer has to make.

^^ thanks.... would mtnl replace a D-Link modem with the utstarcom modem? i`m thinking of getting my free modem lol.. replaced. hehe

But, i also use utstar and it gets hot after some hours of usage. Also, its a chinese product.Well, where can i buy a utstar modem and what's the price ??

Well its an electrical device consuming energy, wat is wrong in its getting hot? Unless it fries ur computer table ofcourse. Even the D-Link used to get hot.

Also, its a chinese product.

Dlink is a Taiwanese company which is a part of china. Its not necessary that all chinese cheap products are bad, some of them offer real value for money.

I have not bought it, i have rented it from MTNL. This is their Indian support number listed on their website 1 600 121204

Yes now they are supplying Utstars only, the JTO of the exchange told me they were sick and tired of Dlink and hence were only supplying Utstars.

Utstar is good when compared to only a particular model of dlink i.e. 502T and i am not generalising about other models from Dlink which could be quite good. There are other models also available in the market viz. SMC, Linksys etc i suggest u have alook at them as well.

Offtopic, but don't say that to someone from Taiwan.

i say that to chinese who agree with me 😛 This is thread a on modems and i hope we keep it to that only and not start discussing controversial political questions..

Well my comment was marked off-topic. And saying Taiwan is a part of china is equivalent to telling us our neighbour's views on kashmir.

I said this was a thread on modems, doesnt seem to have made any difference. Remark was in context of geographical location of the modem manufacturing company, i am not deciding or discussing sovereignty questions here. Okay?

In Nehru Place D-Link 502-t is available for 1750rs havn't bargained yet so expect some fall .

Do MTNL Support QoS?
if yes. Could you help me how to configure it because
i am planning to use Voip Adapter with my phone and
it would be great to have QoS setyup for clear voice. 🙂 🙂
