Ah,

Pre 1947: British implement divide and rule policy, exploit religion.

Post 1947: Indians implement divide and rule policy, exploit religion and caste.

Now tell me, was independance really worth it? It just replaced one set of dictators wth another. Atleast under the British, we got the Railways, the basics of an educational system, and the unification of various princely states. What have we got under the Congress over 58 years ? Any development the common man has made in his living standards has been despite the government, not because of it.

it's not just the UPA government - they are all twits.

lol...i know. all politicians suck.

dukes, lol! good one!

i feel that these people have forgotten that democracy is for the people, by the people and of the people. These guys are acting like dictators and not public servants!

Now let's not get carried away! If they were dictators, people wouldn't be able to hold peaceful protests! Protestors wouldn't be lathi-charged, they would be shot. And if we didn't have independence, well for starters, you probably wouldn't have the internet, nor would you have the freedom to post on this forum. You wouldn't have fundamental rights like the right to life and liberty. There would be a good chance that you may not even be educated. Let's not knock independence.Yes, I agree the politicians have acted with extreme stupidity and an unforgivable lack of foresight, but we do still live in a democracy. The inherent problem with democracy of course is that if most people are stupid, then so is the government. If most people are prejudiced and unscientific, then so is the government.

eh? Singapore was under the British rule until what....2000? And look at it! Superb! 😀 But now its under Chinese rule. Sucks! 🙁

You guys would find Aldous Huxley's "Brave New World" a very interesting read. And if you find slavery that appealing, then move to Africa!

Well, yes, kind of Link 1, Link 2 though no as prevalent as my post may have suggested.

anyway that was not the point. The point was that don't get so hung up on the bad shape our politics are in today as to suggest that rule under a foreign power would be better. If you think quotas are discriminatory, thne read up on some of the things that the british did to us.

Anyway this post has digressed way beyond it's original conception... maybe it's time to close it.

I think we still are slaves, slaves of undemocratic , fascist, non secular, corrupt Govt....and I am not pointing fingers at any one party.

The point here is that we have only a namesake democracy , votes are actually bought in a way if you see how votebanks are targetted. The current reservation imbroglio is actually just another example of that. It has been happening all these years else how would have so many illegal slums come up in Mumbai if the administration had been given the requisite freedom by the Politicians.??The common man and the Great Indian Middle Class has woken up from its sleep now because the politicians largesse is hurting them...when the slums were filling up , we turned a blind eye to them ..as it was a classical example of "Its not in my backyard so why bother"The good thing is that even though late, its good that people have woken up. The problem with the Open Category which comprises most of the middle class in India is that we dont go out and vote in big numbers. The voting percentages are dismal in so calles high class areas...so why would a politician go out and try to appease non-voters.Though the YFE says that the movement is non political , it will be solved only when we show this s%^t Congress-UPA government the power of middle class votes. Let them sit up and take note of the existence of the middle class "voter" , and not just the slum dwellers etc.And one more thing , I am in support of reservations , but only for the economically backward from all castes. Let 20-25% seats be reserved for them , and give them financial aid. In know many fellow students in my college who battle to pay their fees such reservations would them...the real needy people. In caste basd reservations the rich remain rich and the poor remain poor...Thats what is happenening with the current lot of SC/ST people and more or less the OBC's too.

we are slaves of our own actions. boycott elections. boycott the governments... obey judiciary. and file PILs in courts.

lol... it really seems that these days PILs in court, and the Supreme and High courts are the only one who seem to be making any positive change. It's unfortunate that our judiciary is handicapped by a legislature comprising of short-sighted, self-serving, uneducated politicians (and yes I know there are exceptions to this stereotype).

And aniketvb, though I agree that our educational system is setup to the disadvantage of the economically lower classes, quotas still wouldn't solve the problem - scholarships however would.

For all the inspiration that the politicians supposedly get from the U.S. as regards to affirmative action, if only they adopted the concept of "financial aid" then we would have no problem. The college I went to in the states would to the best (and I mean best) of their abilities make sure that a deserving student was never denied quality educaiton merely on financial factors. And my college wasn't rich like some others.

btw did anyone catch this dude from the knowledge commission (one of the two who actually supported quotas) who in a talk show on DD or something claimed that the American civil war was fought to bring about affirmative action for african-americans!!!!! 🙂 What's next? Are they going to claim that OBCs have been oppressed with slavery for "two millenia" (wherever that figure came from). 🙄

This quota system is a viscious cycle. On one hand you might be implementing it to bring up the backward class(which I dont think is the case with these f*king politicians. They are just concerned about votes.), but on the other hand you are creating a gap between the "upper class" and the "lower class" and differences in the caste system.

I do agree that this is a big step in the backward direction. The reservations were first introduced to help the people from the backward class to come up and bring about equality in soceity, and then later on start reducing the reservations. But today what is hapenning is a different story altogether. Instead, reservations are being increased and more differences ares being created in the society. The government should try and think how to decrease reservations and not how to increase them.

Today, the reservations shouldnt be on the basis of caste. The government should try and help the economically weak persons. Im not sayin that these people shouldnt be given a chance, but if want to keep reservations you just cant ridiculously increase the number reserved seats to some absurd level, there has to be a limit. You cant be unfair to the other people who deserve more. Also, these reservations are being misused badly. Everyone knows that anyone can get a certificate for just a few hundred rupees.

there was one good suggestion in interview . If a obc person gets a reserved seat through quota then his childrens should not be able to get reserved seats . reservation should be on financial basis which is not possible as most people hardly shows their full property/income to government OR there should be no quota ( best solution 😀 ).
[/b]
I totally agree on that. I think a couple of suggestions made were good.
I just wish that there were no reservations at all.

Lets just hope that all goes well and we get a better solution which would be beneficial to all.

I think this whole idea of reservations is crappy, I have seen people creating fake OBC certificates and getting admission. When these politicians get even a headache, they head for foreign treatment, why because they themselves know that this reservation has detoriated the quality of doctors in India.I think quotas based on financial conditions is a brilliant idea.I like your signature vebmetal.

we d educated ones dnt vote coz v knw dat they (d sucker politicians) don't deserve our votes...........but d blasted non-educated ones votes n' place a damn asshole onto our backs who knws shit n cares shit either  so bhai log.........kya hoga is desh ka? 🤔
